There was this on the netpage (http://www.staatsbosbeheer.nl/Nieuws%20 ... 0nest.aspx):
22-02-2014

Translated (by me, so beware) it says:

The pair of eagleowls hasn't appeared before the cameras in the former quarry in the Achterhoek lately. The female has most likely found a place to lay her eggs out of the view of the cameras. Marco Wiggemans, one of the volunteers of Staatsbosbeheer, discovered this this afternoon after a visit in the quarry.

Test sitting
Two years ago the female also had been test sitting on another location. But in the end she decided to sit on her eggs in the original nest, in front of the camera. So there's still a chance this could happen now too, but the chances are slim.

If the eagleowl stays on her new nest, there won't be live broadcasts of the breeding eagleowls. It isn't possible to relocate the camera to a new nest site without disturbing the birds. Via the logs on http://www.volgdeoehoe.nl forrester Tjibbe Hunink will keep you updated on news on the eagleowls.

EDIT: a few days ago I had the camera on and although I didn't see any of the eagleowls, I could hear one of them in the distance. Their vocalisations are difficult to be mistaken for something else, so they are around there somewhere.

This link doesn't work, any suggestion? It's hard to find any information without Dutch language.

The Dutch eagle-owl cam is down Mamicja, since the owls moved to another location nearby. See my previous post (above yours) for more details. But all is well with the owls, and the female has most likely already laid her eggs in the new nest, according the forester who keeps an eye on them. Anyway, there won't be any broadcasts from the new nest, but the forester will keep the public informed every now and then.

Most likely sad news about the Dutch Eagleowls :(

From the logbook by the forester who keeps watch there:
Oehoenest mislukt?

Translation by me:

Eagleowl nest failed?

We have reason to assume that the first breeding attempt of the eagleowls has failed. We aren't 100% certain because noone ever saw the actual eggs. Here the facts listed:

1. On February 2nd the female was on the nest for 2 hours. Everything looked like it was here where she would lay her eggs. Both eagleowls were seen regularly in front of the cams in January.
2. After this the female didn't appear before the cam anymore. The male was last seen on February 10th (when he caught a mouse).
3. After February 10th no eagleowls were sighted in front of the cam.
4. On February 22nd volunteer Marco discovered the female in breeding positure on a new nesting site.
5. Until March 2nd the female laid in breeding position on this new nest.
6. In the night of March 1st to 2nd a stone marten (martes foina) was sighted by a camera trap. This marten strolls through the quarry. Alarmcalls by the eagleowls were to be heard.
7. In the morning of March 2nd the female was not on the nest anymore.
8. In the evening of March 2nd there were a lot of vocalisations and the female was calling foor food constantly. One could hear that she wasn't on the nest and moved quite often.
9. The same evening suddenly the male appeared in front of the camera (at the old nest). He scratched in the nestbowl and made lure sounds which normally are meant to lure a female to a nesting site.

Without wanting to blame the stone marten directly, there's strong evidence that something went wrong. If this first breeding attempt really has failed, there's the possibility that there will be laid new eggs again. Usually such happens on a different spot. So who knows, maybe eagleowls in front of the camera after all?

Keep my fingers crossed, all will be fine, whatever that means. Wish we could see them at the cam, but if not, hopefully they will have eggs at a different place.

After the recent events at the new nest of the eagleowls (see my previous post above), both the male and the female were sighted on the old nest tonight:

Male from 20:06 till 20:09 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNiq0qNh ... e=youtu.be

Female from 20:12 till 20:16 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjRXNAB_ ... e=youtu.be

Looks like the female is digging a bit in the 'nestbowl'.

So perhaps they will try again to get a clutch going, and this time in front of the camera again. Fingers crossed.

EDIT:

At 21:16 both male and female are heard, he calls and she answers.

Both male and female were heard and sometimes seen in front of the camera the last days. Yesterday evening someone reported that the female, outside the view of the camera unfortunately, made noises which are typical when a female eagleowl is about to lay an egg, but no official confirmation of that yet.

Both male and female visit the old nest (the nest where the camera is) every day:

Male, march 10th at 19:56 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vaxskouw ... e=youtu.be

Female, march 10th at 23:41 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWuYSdpH ... e=youtu.be

People report they hear both calling to each other, including calls when a male delivers prey to a female, but this happened outside the view of the camera.

The female visited the nest last night again, digging a bit with her beak and calling for food: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4lhrjtT ... e=youtu.be

Both male and female were heard calling every day lately.
