Things suddenly just got really interesting. With over an hour spent last night on the nest, including a visit with Mr T, Altera decides to clean house, tossing E6.1 and E6.2 over the ledge. After close inspection this morning, there appears to be no embryo, likely confirming she had instinctive reasons to abandon these eggs.
Perhaps this means good things are still to come.

E6.1 & E6.2, a few weeks later, after a saddening but apparent unproductive (as far as we can tell) Season 6 of the @okcowlcam . Here’s to a hopeful future season to observe. With Love from the Click (and Tiger) Families.

Can you say, “Better late than never?”

On the morning of 2/12, Deziray discovered Altera in an urn on one of the Juliet balconies. Similar to Season 1, when it all started, the chosen nesting site is a tall, ceramic urn, but this time on the south side of the front entry. (Season 1 was on the east side). “E7.1” was laid some time after dawn that morning, and she sat on it until mid-day. As has been common in every season, she doesn’t sit on the first egg(s) constantly until she’s done laying what she intends to lay. Temps have remained well above freezing, so her absence is no cause for alarm or concern. She perches in the nearby loblolly pines next door keeping a watchful eye, and has visited several times since then to check in on and roll the egg.

Consider this preview of what is hopefully to come as our Valentine’s Day box of chocolates to you.

Altera came through like clockwork, laying E7.2 some time between 3:45-6:00AM this morning. Thursday OKC enjoyed temps in the 70s, but dropped into the upper 20s overnight with the outlook over the next week hovering around freezing. Consequently, Altera remains on the nest, which is an encouraging sign.

Because we know you well, Dear Fans, let’s address what looks like a crack in one of the eggs. This appears to be an artifact of the laying process, combined with a particle from the dirt in the urn. Close on-site inspection has confirmed this is *NOT* a crack, as depicted in the close-ups provided here.

Deziray Click :
This is from Barred Owls of Midtown Tulsa.
Barred Owls of Midtown Tulsa heard that 3/16 Altera stopped incubating two eggs, left the nest, & has not returned. Though sad to hear this news, it is reassuring to know nothing happened to her or Mr. T. who've been seen and heard nearby. Between last night/early we received/continue to receive calls & messages from OKC GHO fans requesting we send info of rehabber who incubated Sofie's 2 eggs last season after she died. To those GHO fans, please know we join you in your disappointment. Regrettably, there is a huge difference between eggs retrieved within 48 hours of being laid & where incubation had yet to commence vs. eggs incubated for 23 days. The reality is that Altera would not leave these eggs after 23 days unless she knew they were not viable--she knows. The upshot is that both mom and dad are okay. There was/is plenty going on at/near the nest site right before, time she left, and immediately after to be seen & heard on those videos to help viewers understand a little bit more about urban raptors. Keep watching.

We promised to update you once we had official word from the study on E7.1 & E7.2. WildCareOklahoma (our local advisor, who also provided us with Principio, the adopted owl of Season 5) received the eggs and did an initial assessment, after which they began incubating and monitoring them for any development progress. After a week, however, no development was detected, and they were ultimately confirmed as not viable.

This news, while unfortunate, confirms what appears to be Altera's conclusion, as well as ours after she left the nest. We have no way of knowing the cause or reason of their lack of viability, but we look forward to future opportunities that may present themselves for future enjoyment and observations of Altera & Mr. Tiger.

Thank you for your continued viewership and love of these Great Horned Owls. We'll keep you posted of any interesting developments or news. -- The Clicks

Additional cameras added!
I’ve added a 3rd one!
We know that most of you like us are sitting at home practicing social distancing. In this unsure, confusing time it has really helped me to just sit for a few minutes and watch these amazing creatures that God has created and allowed us a peak in on. A lot of our fans are elderly and or considered "high risk" in terms of their medical status so I hope this puts a smile on your and their face and brings you some joy. Not sure how long we can leave it up, but for now, enjoy. This is not the quality or multiple camera views that we can change per the owls movements.
Sometimes they will be out of the view of the cameras so please do not get concerned. These are our security cameras that we have slightly rearranged so we could peak in. We have limited our presence and disturbances of the nest site intentionally this season and will continue that practice.
No chat is available, just watching and enjoying. We will not be answering any questions left in the comments, sorry.

Here are a couple of updated pics of the 3 owlets. 2 are up in the small blue planter and 1 below in the orange planter. They grow so fast!!! We are unable to get close to take any pictures. (These are taken from our staircase, 25 stairs up and zoomed in all the way). Altera has become very protective and very aggressive(as she is supposed to be about her babies)More so than past years. Deziray and “G” have both been attacked by her, so we don’t dare try any cameras. We just have to enjoy them from afar. Thought you’d enjoy some fun news and pics. Hugs and miss you all, Cindy

Here’s some current pics of the owelets. We do not have a live feed, so sorry. We rarely even go to the window this season due to Altera being very very protective. We are just letting them do what they were created to do.

Hello loyal owl fans. I saw all your posts asking about the owls this year. Yes they are back. So far , 2 eggs. First was laid on Monday, Jan 17th and the second, Friday, Jan 21st. She Picked the roomier pot this year. There are 3 pots facing east, and she chose the middle one. There’s lots of room for baby owls and lots of room to play and roam around. I’ll try to keep you updated. Before you ask, not sure if there will be any cameras. Last year, both Deziray and G were attacked by momma owl. She is not as chilled as Mrs Tiger was. She will try to put a camera out on a warm day, and only if it is safe to do so. ( Those talons hurt , and cut deep). So enjoy the new eggs and pray she has a couple of more to lay. If she does, next one should be about Tuesday. Miss you all and it’s nice to know you still follow Alessondra’s great horned owl adventures. Love to all! Nindy( Cindy, Alessondra’s grandma)

And then there were 3 eggs!! It’s a very cold day in Oklahoma , but momma is doing a fine job keeping her eggs nice and warm. Tomorrow is more of the same weather with some snow flurries. She is really low in the pot, so she’s somewhat protected from wind and elements. How many of you think there will be a 4th egg?? Let us know in the comments. Just a little update on Alessondra - she will be 17 in March!! How did this happen? I think she was around 5 when the owls started coming around. Alessondra is a beautiful young lady and is really involved in her school. How many of you have followed from the beginning? It will be interesting to know. Will update again in a few days. Stay warm and safe!

Hello owl fans. A little update on Momma and her eggs. There are 3 eggs (I know the pic looks like only 2 eggs, but there are 3, it’s the angle of the camera). She has faithfully sat on her babies thru wind storms, 3-6 inches of snow, thunderstorms last night, and we’re looking at sleet, ice and snow tomorrow and Thursday. She is sitting pretty deep in her nest, so she is blocked pretty well. (She is sitting so deep, you can’t see her from the ground.). She is doing a fabulous job taking care of her eggs. Rarely leaves the nest. The eggs were laid Jan. 17th , 21st and 25th. Can’t wait to see the new baby owlets! It was so heart warming to read how long each of you have been following Alessondra’s Owls. We so appreciate your interest and love for owls. Here’s a new trivia question. Can any of you name the first baby owl that was born? (Small hint- 2 words). Will update you soon.

We have exciting news! We have 2 baby owls! One to go. We don’t know what day they hatched. Today is our first warm day, so mamma went for a fly (just across the street). She never lets them out of her sight! Looks like “Rabbit” is on the menu today. Mr. Tiger has to work 3 times as hard now to feed the “young Ins “. The 3rd egg should hatch any day now. For those of you that guessed “Tiger Lily” as the first named owlet, you were correct. We’ll see what new names Alessondra comes up with for our new babies. (She just might let G and Xavier have a say for a couple of them.). Couldn’t wait to share the great news. What names do you all suggest? Let us know.
