I found this criminal story that happened in this nest last year.
On February 22 the female laid 1 egg, at night February 24 - the second. However, at 6 in the morning, a female-aggressor flew into the nest box. The female-tenant flew in a few seconds after her. There was a dramatic fight, as a result of which the owl-intruder was caught with female-tenant talons and after 2 minutes it was known that she was defeated. However, both owls remained in a death grip for about 5 hours, after which the owl-intruder died. Of course, both eggs were crushed, but the female was still sitting next to the corpse. In the following days she laid one more egg, but a day later she lost her incubating instinct and sat next to it. The male brought food for a few nights, but the female began to feed herself on a dead owl. After many days after fight , on March 14, the owl finally left the nest, leaving the remains of the aggressor owl and one non hatched egg.
*Phew* - already three hatchlings and a pip in the fourth egg
Mamicja, did they announce whether they will lay out some supportive food, in case it will be hard for the parent birds to feed four hungry beaks?
I do not think it will be necessary. There's a lot of food in the nest so far, Ridge is a good hunter. A desert begins near the school and there are many rodents supposedly. I'm sure Wendy, who looks after owls, would help if necessary.
A platform has been installed on the pillar today.
The installation lasted 5 minutes and Shadow was not in the nest for 7 minutes.
The platform is installed
Shadow is back

The platform looks great and enlarges the space for owlets.

This morning we received a call that an owl was on the ground close to our house. We knew that it was Pappa. We called Murray and the two of us went there with a net. Pappa tried to fly away, but Murray was too quick with the net. We caught him successfully.
We took him to the Bryanston exotic and Avian Vet. They confirmed the terrible disease Trich. He is currently being treated with new medication that Owl Rescue Center has proven to be the most effective.
We know that you are all as concerned as we are. He is in the best care and we look forward to his return with confidence. Regards Allan.
