Bea wrote:Well, I am sure that the cleaning up of the Osprey forum is hard work for you admins - apart from the fact that some posts shouldn´t be deleted for good ....

Couldn´t you create a parallel forum - just like you want to do it for next season? One scientific and one with more chat?
And move the posts that don´t fit any longer to the scientific to the "chatty one"?

Hm, surely more work than pressing the "delete button" and I don´t know if it can be realized like that for you .... :puzzled:
We seem to have an inbuilt reluctance to delete for good. Some posts will go that way - those than just contain only a thanks, or a smiley.
Others - we can find a way and there is no rush - not until April next year!

As you say, Bea - making a parallel forum is more work.

We have to clean up the Osprey nest topic so that it is easier for the scientific community to find the facts of this nest, this season.
That means that very many posts are not "Observation Only"
Please save them  . Those are our memories. Maybe you can put some links with short description somwhere in this thread? - for us - empty nesters, so we can enjoy them a little bit longer.
....and "The thank you" posts - this is the best proof, how important is the work of all people involved in this project. Can you find some place to save this? :help:

How easy would it be to leave all observation posts where they are and move all the things we don't want to lose (Piret's post-cards and other art and videos) to right here in this forum and delete the mere chatting posts?

I have been a member of many other forums and space (and costs) was always an issue.......and if I want to be fortunate enough to view this cam and forum next season then some things may have to be sacrificed...

This is my first post. Finally got approval from Looduskalender and I'm so grateful. I watched the Kala Osprey for several weeks and cannot even begin to tell how much I enjoyed the family and all postings, videos, pictures. I've learned so much by just reading and observing. Such patient, knowledgeable and friendly people! Thank You to so many people for making it possible to watch and learn about these beautiful birds. Nori's departure saddened me yet gave me tears of happiness knowing that she is on her way to her siblings and they will be exploring their new world. :loveshower:

Sandy, I don't know what happened to your membership. As you can see, it was activated on 27th August. Some kind of hitch, somewhere. I am glad you can get here now. Welcome to LKF!

Celeste, yes, our memories of the nest season are precious.
I think it would take up so many pages to put those non-observation posts here. We must find another solution.
They are not going to vanish quickly.

I tried to begin deleting some off-topic posts this morning, but I failed, miserably. Many of them (working backwards from page 600) are either Thank you posts, or first posts from new members or other posts that are just too recent for me to be able to discard.

For isntance, the postcards from Piret by Dadel - we can't lose those, yet they don't belong in that topic. There are other creative, artistic posts too.
Shall we start an Art in the Nest, or through the webcam topic.
Can you find your artistic posts and let me have them.
I will try to harden my heart in a week or so. For now, Nancy will begin at Page one and start to lift the important data and delete unimportant posts. Perhaps she is tougher than I am, but it must be done.
Hello Jo,
Please ... not delete posts! This forum is authentic and unique. I wrote Felis my justification in a message.
You could copy the thread and then delete - create a factsforum for scientists.

A doubt of a photo on the Bird Migration Map :puzzled:
Refer to the bird Migration Map (http://birdmap.5dvision.ee/index.php?lang=en#),
I found out that the Image 8 of Piret (under the Osprey list), the Osprey in the photo should not be Madis, the mate of Piret.

As I have been watching the webcam video for a while,
I noticed that Madis's ring should be on his right leg, but the Osprey in Image 8 was on his left leg.

Lumberjack and everyone - I don't think we want to delete pics! This forum needs it pictures - it is our food and reason to be! There is no intention to remove the Thank you posts in the last few pages - they are sincere and important to the people who do this work.

The posts that are "one-liners" or thanks for pic, or just a smiley, - they serve no purpose and will be deleted - sometime. It will take weeks to go through it and it is not a priority for admins to do that work in a hurry.

Anyone if free to make a copy if you have storage space, or server space. I won't do it here because we don't want to waste our server space on duplications.
There are always new posts, new pictures, new webcams and discussions - we must always have space for those.

Nicest "Hello" to you "old" wellknown people here  (..... and to "our" admins :-))) Image ) .....)
Now it's also me, who landed HERE ..... ;-D
Hello to Chimega Image I read your comment about my "family-farewell-picture" at "our old" place ..... I like that YOU like it :D ....... and I heard the cranes this morning, too, and I agree: "lovely sound" :-))) ..... obviously you still watch the cam ;-) ..... I DO it, too ;-) ..... AND: ..... it sounds as I would "hallucinate", I know ;-) ..... but I swear, I heard an OSPREY calling at EEST 14:39 at afternoon..... Image ..... but I guess, that "our family" and the other family who's "father and kid" part could be observed at nest2 the past days, weren't (aren't) the only OSPREYS in this area, right? ;-) ...... but since THIS sound from the cam at afternoon, I LOST around 1-2 hours of my working time, because I STARED to the cam window - in hope, MADIS would come, or NORI ;-) ....... *CRAZY* ..... *laugh*

I didn't read anything here (not yet ;-) .....) and I still have to work currently but after finishing my work for this day&night ;-) I'll read all the "billions" of FIVE sites here ;-) (maybe 6, when I'll start to read ;-) ......) .....

One thing before I continue my work ..... I decided to post my farewell-picture with my farewell lines also here (I hope, this is okay? ) .....

In DEEP GRATITUDE for this
WONDERFUL FAMILY .....!
..... you showed us so much TENDERNESS, LOVE and most devoted parental CARE!
You brought love and light into our hearts - and warmth even into the coldest souls!
May the sun always guide your paths and the goddess of good fortune be with you at all your places!
And may you all come back - strong and healthy - to your homeland: BEAUTIFUL ESTONIA!

IKat wrote::wave: Hi, I took a look at the Hellgate ospreys this morning. There was one osprey at the nest, but it was very dark (night?). Then I looked the Facebook page and I read about the injury. How sad... There were so many comments on the FB page that I didn´t find out how bad the injury really is. But the nest got empty meanwhile, so I guess Crown can still fly. :2thumbsup: Hopefully Crown will fully recover!

Starling I do believe that Crown is flying without problems....they are watching closely to see if any changes occur......here is a lovely shot I took of a starling in our crab apple tree awhile back....is the bird the reason you took the name starling? They are an invasive (introduced) species here and non-native....but this time of the year the stars on their plumage are still quite lovely.......

Image[/quote]

I LOVE Starlings!!! :loveshower: Every house in my neighborhood, here, has them and they get into the vent system during breeding time. They sing and talk and chatter like crazy right before the sun comes up and they make the cutest little sounds, beeping and chattering like little aliens in all the vents. I loooooovvvvvvvvve it!
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
