I'm not a specialist and I have yet to see an osprey flying, but I would say the wing span here seems to be much bigger - buzzard 113-128 cm, osprey 127-174 cm. Buzzard has much rounder wings. Pity the bird did not fly towards Manu!

Today I spent some time at this place, but it was really terrible wheather (raining/snowing and dark).

I'm sooooo angry quality would not be better . But on my PC when I look the Pictures on Full Screen I think I see the "motion of the special osprey flight" like a "W or M". Sorry, I don't know how to explain in english

Manu, we think your bird cannot be an osprey. The wings of ospreys are much narrower and longer than those of the bird shown. And ospreys have more dark patches on the lower side of wings and body.

The colours of buzzards however are differing a lot: from nearly white with only some dark edges of the wings and a small dark colon near the "ellbow" to nearly black birds with hardly any lighter parts. We don't know if there is any other bird with such a widespread variety.

Eric and I think the bird you've seen was a very light coloured young buzzard.

Hi Leonia,
thank you for your answer.
The last few day's I was in contact with different persons ( Urmas/NABU/Vogelwarte Sempach/CH and others). A few persons don't answering till yet. And Felis told me that she was in touch with you and your friend.
It seems it was really a bright/light coloured buzzard .
It's a bit embarrassing I meant it was an osprey, but otherwise it's good it wasn't. Because the low temperatures in this area.
Now I'm looking forward and hope I will see this birds (We saw that were 2 birds same colour/size) once again in this area.

As we have members from all over the globe many of us have a problem with the different date formats.
For instance, is today 1-20-2013 or
2013 - 20 -1 or
20 -1 - 2013

The current webcams which werre produced in USA display the USA format, which confuses Europeans.
The European format confuses the North American members.

One way to overcome this is to write the name of the month, when we need to write a date in our posts.
So today is 20 January, 2013.

The story of Piret, Madis and Oscar

PIRET reached Estonia on 13th of April. But no Madis is there. After 4 days she is losing her patience and she flirts with a cute young osprey. Then, suddenly, after 2 days, a bright, wonderful (and breathless) osprey appears: MADIS!

Piret could have jumped up and down for joy and wanted to embrace Madis – but, no, there was Oscar who aspired so much to be together with her, and she really liked Oscar, so she didn’t want just to say Good Bye.

So she took Madis aside and asked him to trust her, she told him that she was never interested in Oscar and everything would be fine. Well, Madis is a man, so he trusted blindly the beloved woman.

Piret had something in mind. In Africa, when she had a lot of time, she read about wolves, and something impressed her very much:
the female boss of a wolf pack will never have only sex with the male boss, but she will also choose some other wolves to fertilize her. So she can be sure that several wolves believe to be the father of her puppies and each of them will be concerned about the offspring, because it could be his own.
Piret thought that this is a very clever behaviour, and she remembered that Madis sometimes supplied fishes (eels or stuff like that) which were really not acceptable. So it would be practical to have a second provider for the family.

But first she suggested Madis and Oscar to visit the nest, then they would see how it is going on.
Madis faintly remembered something, and this was not a nice remembrance. But Oscar eagerly anticipated the visit.
On their arrival however, all three were gasping for breath. Madis tried to escape, Piret looked into the sky, searching for help and Oscar just passed out.

The story of Piret, Madis and Oscar
continued from episode 1

There was an immense quantity of rotten, stinking fishes on the nest.
Piret said to Madis, very innocently, didn’t I tell you to instruct the next tenants to get a freezer?
Now, both of you have to see what to do with this chaos.
And Madis and Oscar started reluctantly to tilt the fishes over the nest border, trying hard not to gag.

After a while, Oscar said he would urgently need fresh air and had to fly away for a short spin, maybe he would find some nest material on this occasion.

Piret and Madis were alone, finally! It wouldn't be very polite to report details, but, after a while, the first step forward to create a new generation was done.

Oscar came back but he was not alone. No, he didn’t bring nest material. 4 fellow ospreys were in his company.

Goodness gracious, 7 ospreys were now sitting on the nest! Oscar’s fellows were very polite and introduced themselves, telling that they have practical experience with chicks, are perfect in housekeeping and well-trained for catching fishes, so they would like to participate in this project. 6 husbands! Sometimes even one is too much! The nest is not big enough! And everybody possibly would have a different opinion about chick rearing! And maybe not 3 but 9 eggs! Nori, Elo, Uno – all of them would exist triply! Piret had a short black out. But when she regained consciousness…

Die Ranzzeit dauert bei Wölfen etwa von Dezember bis Februar. Duftstoffe im Urin der Alpha-Fähe weisen den Rüden darauf hin, dass die Wölfin empfängnisbereit ist. In dieser Zeitspanne weicht der Rüde ihr nicht von der Seite. Vor- und nachher kopuliert die Fähe auch mit rangniedrigeren Rüden. Ein guter Trick, damit sich später alle Tiere um den Nachwuchs kümmern. Es könnte ja sein, dass es der eigene ist.

Before and afterwards, the female will copulate with male wolves of lower degree. A good trick in order to achieve that all wolves will take care of the offspring. It could be their own.

It’s indeed hard to believe that the male boss of a wolf pack will allow that other wolves copulate with his spouse. Not even dogs would tolerate that.

Anyhow – take my statements in the story as poetic licence
