Maybe it's already posted elsewhere on this forum, but for those suffering from a terrible empty nest syndrome and/or severe eagle-deprivation, here's a link to a webcam of White-bellied Sea-Eagles in Sydney, Australia. Two pretty small chicks in this nest. I've seen both parents too, but yet not witnessed any feeding.

The quality and camera angle could have been better, especially compared to the excellent view we're used to on the Estonian osprey and other Estonian and Latvian cams, but meh, this might ease this unpleasant empty nest feeling a bit.

I just read the update about the migration of the sole survivor of the Dyfi Osprey Project this year, Ceulan, who in the course of less than a week flew from Wales to the coast of Marocco, and just keeps flying south, towards his wintering grounds.

Ceulan roosted for the night by the Moroccan coast, but the following morning, September 9th, he was off again. By lunchtime he was 40 miles further south and crossed the same path that his brother Einion did last year. Einion was in the same place at the same time on the same day - September 9th. They were so close, they would have seen each other in a one-year time machine.

As I write on Monday evening, it's almost unthinkable that Ceulan only set off the previous Monday. He's travelled over 2,000 miles in that time, at an average of around 300 miles per day. Ceulan left a wet and windy Wales just a week ago and is now over the largest desert on the planet - the Sahara. Insanely amazing.

If Carlsberg did ospreys, they'd make Ceulan.

With the fantastic example of Ceulan in mind, I'm by far not as worried as I was before for our ospreys' migration. Uno, Elo, Nori, and the other chicks will do just fine.

So Hello all! Here you are :) Is this the place to survive the winter. With you happy people, I think this is the right place to wait for next April and Piret and Madis to return. It has really been 2 "empty days", one can miss those yelling "conversations" between family - it is too quiet!!!! I guess my boss will be satisfied with life without kalakotkas's nest

Beerose , what a lovely video..I nearly missed it because I didnt looked enough and thought it was the racervideo Alexander did before..Excellent done! Good to have and it was nice to hear their different sounds..so sweet.

I think the birds are majestic and good they just eat fish, should be hard to see alittle rabbitbaby being eaten..iih..

Yes here we are, and I think we misses eachother too..well you can do as I ..go to side one and read and look at videos..

Now I dont remember who , but your avatar was very much identical with a pic of Nori someone had..dont remember who..maybe fraszka..but I give you a hint again when I find it..it was so cool to see how much Nori reminded of her mother ..

I wonder what purpose this birds have..they eat fish and thats it..is it to keep fishquote ? in resonable limit..

Before humans get the ability to clean the seas and lakes totally.. and just had a net or so..

I have seen nest on Island here nearby and long time ago deep in forest in a pinetreetop..that was when I worked in forest..my dad was a lumberjack and so did I for a while, with a chainsaw..yeees in my youth..I was good..now I have problems because I worked too hard then..

I am home and have all time to join here , and my kids lives 300 km from me. I shall go in and interduce me in a special socialize forum here ..if I manage to find it again..

Hi, I took a look at the Hellgate ospreys this morning. There was one osprey at the nest, but it was very dark (night?). Then I looked the Facebook page and I read about the injury. How sad... There were so many comments on the FB page that I didn´t find out how bad the injury really is. But the nest got empty meanwhile, so I guess Crown can still fly. Hopefully Crown will fully recover![/quote]


Starling I do believe that Crown is flying without problems....they are watching closely to see if any changes occur......here is a lovely shot I took of a starling in our crab apple tree awhile back....is the bird the reason you took the name starling? They are an invasive (introduced) species here and non-native....but this time of the year the stars on their plumage are still quite lovely.......

IKat Thanks for the pic of a starling. We have starlings here in Finland too, I see them sometimes, but not too often. I´ve seen on the pictures also very interesting, very colourful starlings (violet-backed starlings, golden-breasted starlings). They are beautiful. Yes, I took the nick name because of it and I wanted to have a bird-kind-of nick name. And also because the name sounds nice, it´s like star + darling.

I looked the Hellgate ospreys again a while ago when I came home from work. Crown was eating then. :) All the other osprey cameras I know are empty already and this morning I found out the only osprey on web cam is injured. It breaks my heart to see injured birds. But I can´t close my eyes either and forget it. So I will still check the Hellgate camera again and just hope Crown will survive!

Edit: Now I saw Crown flying. :)

Ah, the age-old question, what is the meaning of life? I think I have learned three things so far:

Life wants to live.

All life is interconnected in a great interdependent web.

Everything we need is here (including natural products to heal our ills).


I don't know that any species, such as osprey, need a purpose other than to be, but I do think we humans have become a danger to the whole planet - thank goodness for people like Urmas and Kotkaklubi who do their best to understand and protect.

I need your help and opinions, please.

We have to clean up the Osprey nest topic so that it is easier for the scientific community to find the facts of this nest, this season.
That means that very many posts are not "Observation Only"

I tried to begin deleting some off-topic posts this morning, but I failed, miserably. Many of them (working backwards from page 600) are either Thank you posts, or first posts from new members or other posts that are just too recent for me to be able to discard.

For isntance, the postcards from Piret by Dadel - we can't lose those, yet they don't belong in that topic. There are other creative, artistic posts too.
Shall we start an Art in the Nest, or through the webcam topic.
Can you find your artistic posts and let me have them.
I will try to harden my heart in a week or so. For now, Nancy will begin at Page one and start to lift the important data and delete unimportant posts. Perhaps she is tougher than I am, but it must be done.

What about moving Dadel´s post cards (and others) to the osprey-related discussion topic?

Well, I am sure that the cleaning up of the Osprey forum is hard work for you admins - apart from the fact that some posts shouldn´t be deleted for good ....

Couldn´t you create a parallel forum - just like you want to do it for next season? One scientific and one with more chat?
And move the posts that don´t fit any longer to the scientific to the "chatty one"?

Hm, surely more work than pressing the "delete button" and I don´t know if it can be realized like that for you ....

Starling, I think then, they would get lost among the general chatter, there. Dadel is not the only art-producing member and there may be more than just the postcards.
