Big Bear Nest

It's unbelievable, the sub-adult eagle, meanwhile named Shadow, comes to the nest, when Momster BB is there. She makes softly vocals towards Shadow.

Mrs. BB flies into the nest early in the morning and checks things out before hopping to her branch. A minute later Shadow comes flying into the nest tree landing on Dad's branch. Shadow hops down and begins arranging sticks. Mrs. BB has soft vocals towards Shadow and hops to the nest and nips at Shadow's wing. Shadow is completely submissive and will go to the branch to the left and then come right back to the nest and Mrs BB nips again at the wing. Shadow goes to Dad's branch and stays there until Mrs BB goes back to her branch. Then Shadow returns to the nest and is really industrious with moving sticks and some of them good size. Mrs. BB leaves and then Shadow leaves shortly thereafter. Interesting interaction today - Mrs is very tolerant of Shadow and they seem to be forming a relationship. Time will tell if Shadow stays around all summer. Stormy has been seen flying in the area yesterday enjoying all his new friends. Thank you for watching!

They haven't seen Stormy in a week either. Volunteers want to come looking for him this weekend.

At the last sighting, Stormy also looked underweight.
Shadow and Mrs. BB are always in the nest, which is very strange.

I hope Mr. BB is near Stormy and maybe he'll be taken care of.

As for Stormy, a search was conducted on Sunday at BB but there were no sightings of him. There are some leads and a couple other places that Trish M will search but as of right now the last time Stormy as been seen was July 5th. I do hope that he is spotted so that we will have confirmation he is indeed in the area still and is okay.

The reason can be a fright moulting.
""Fright moulting" has been recorded in several orders of birds and interpreted as a way of escaping a predator when already caught. Two observations suggest that the behaviour may have another function, viz. when an aerial predator chases the prey. By shedding body feathers in the air the bird creates a cloud behind it; this might confuse the predator in the same way as the ink of octopuses confuse their predators."

It also happens in stress! In Germany it is documented that eagles lose their feathers when they are bullied by crows

It's only in german:
