ROMEO AND JULIET BIOGRAPHY

The wild eagle nest in NE Florida has been occupied since the nesting season of 2007 and likely longer. Beginning with the 2008 nesting season these residing eagles have been closely monitored by an Audubon EagleWatch volunteer providing diligent observation and careful documentation. Since then it is certain the same eagle pair "Romeo and
Juliet" have resided at this nest. Through the seven monitored seasons, with the exception of one season, they have produced two eaglets each year for a total of 13. All 13 eaglets have successfully fledged and returned to the nest for several weeks prior to their final departure. Over the seven nesting seasons they have achieved a 100% success
rate.

Romeo and Juliet consistently return to their nest (within an approximate two week period) the end of August or early September.
Their eggs are laid in November and hatches take place typically the end of December.
The fledglings make their final departure typically mid-end of April.
Romeo and Juliet depart for the summer months separately in May. Their whereabouts are an unknown. However, they likely head north to cooler less humid climates.

This experienced eagle pair provide an abundance of food to their young including a variety fish species, squirrel, sea birds, wading birds, waterfowl and possum. The nest tree is a Slash Pine Tree approximately 100' tall and the largest tree in the immediate area. Each season they add to their already over-sized nest estimated to weight approximately a ton. The nest is lodged approximately 85' up providing an optimum view with a waterway below.

Yes, they are very sweet  . Juliet is a strong personality, really eagel-lady. Sometimes I feel that she wears the pants in the nest
