In Denmark some years ago the WTE couple (in a cam nest) did get a second clutch when a marten had taken and broken both eggs - but, though, it happened during the incubation period. And in that case the parents had a little difficulties to get enough food so late in the season, anyway both new eaglets fledged.

A marten stole and broke eggs from WTE?! It must be a very risky one, because it could become a dinner for eagles itself.

Yes it was a marten. The incubating parent flew from the nest when hearing marten climbing up. First it was suspected that it was humans who had stolen the eggs during the night March 20th 2015. But the whole happening was recorded by the cam and it showed that the marten dropped the first egg when trying to run away with it and managed to take away the second one as whole. A strange behaviour of the parent eagle, it flew away and didn't wait for the partner changing it. Maybe it was too young couple and didn't know that the clutch should be kept out all the time.

I left this forum after the tragic event, but continued to check on them daily. Now I see that others also dealt with the question which occupied my mind since.
Today while watching them mating and rebuilding nest, I asked about it.

Marten took the eggs on 20.03.2015. First new egg after 28 days on the 17.04.2015.

Good Morning!
I watch them daily.
Now, when they are free and don't have any duties, why are they still on the nest day and night?
I see them doing all the right things so I hope for them that they'll be parents again.
We have to wait...

We here can think positive - I personally never bother to follow the numerous Facebook comments. But I like to read news of the nest when they publish some
