M serves the bites to Harriet and she's feeding the eaglets, meanwhile also E15 crawled in

Once again they show us what a great team they are, Harriet and M15.
And both eaglets get fed well.

What a precious family - i'm so happy for them :headroll:

M15 and Harriet and E15 and E16 -
and the rabbit toy (i'm wondering if it is from the memorial of poor E14)

:hi:

thank you balistar for the pictures!

I am always worried when seeing roadkill or mammals on the nest nowadays ... rodenticides existence has made me scared ...
I would love to see only fish in this nest

Me too, Owlie :hi:
especially when i'm thinking of the big residential complex that is emerging nearby. People will handle it just as lightly in their gardens

Yes, you're right. A toy rabbit in the nest is funny but it is not known where they found it and it may be dangerous for the eaglets.

.....

today the "two fluffy toys" got a real toy

9.59.45 a toy rabbit was brought and partly "defurred", then carried to the pantry :slap:

.....

CORRECTION:
....it's a toy squirrel, not a toy rabbit.... (i think i need glasses, too :D )

and it does not come from the memorial for E14.
As Lady Hawk in the description of her video confirms, "All stuffed toys were removed weeks ago as a safety precaution." So, one child or dog is missing his toy now.

Further Lady Hawk writes: "Bald Eagles have been known to bring in stuffed animals and other unusual items but I do believe this is the first time we have seen a stuffed toy on our nest! The stuffing can be used as soft nesting material and has not created a problem on other nests."

I personally only have seen Ospreys bringing various weird things to the nest, but this is the first time i see a toy in a Bald Eagles' nest.

Still from yesterday, Apr 07...

A milestone: Little E16 made it also up to the rails, also on its 5th day of age, like E15 :loveshower:

15.09.30
E16 took a nap at the new explored place while E15 crawled back into the bowl

Image

15.10.11
a minute later Harriet walked around and accidentally stepped on E16's neck :slap:

Image

15.10.31
but E16 didn't mind, tough little eaglet, and continued the nap :D

:hi:

thanks for great pictures and reporting :2thumbsup:

The breakfast fish landed on one of the chicks. He was still alive. I mean the fish!
I think both eaglets were a bit shocked by this jumping fish.

:D
This is such a funny event! So M15 brought an eatable squirrel to the nest soon after Harriet brought a fake one

I haven't followed the nest continously - if you have, do you think the food supply now in a late season is normal compared with previous seasons? I understood from the specialist video that even fish in waters move differently during the year, so even it could affect food supply for this clutch ... Or am I over-worried? :puzzled:

I remember one season in the Danish WTE nest with a second clutch that the food supply late in the season was a problem ...

Owlie, although there is a big river nearby, the only thing i know is, when it is hot (and i think it is now in Florida), the fish swim deeper down to the ground where it is colder. Then the parents must look after squirrels, egrets, roadkill.

I'm also worried. Little E16 does not get enough food. I assume it is not even a third of that what E15 gets :(

8.31 E15 is so dominant, often presses E16 back or down with her wing to hold him away from eating, and if he despite tries, he gets hit or bitten :(

Image

8.55 ..look at that size difference !

Image

Even his second down feathers can not develop well with so little food. He has some bald spots that shouldn't be anymore at this time.

Sometimes i can't watch the feedings anymore :(
Sometimes, if E16 gets food at all, he gets 3 or 4 small bites, then fini for him, and he is still hungry.

Thankyou for answering!

A quote from Facebook:

...
The eaglets are over a week old and thriving! Sibling rivalry has been prevalent but E16 is a tough one.

I hope E16 will make it.
Even if we know the natural eagle rules, it's only hard to watch at times.

Apr 11

It's almost 10.00 am and i haven't seen any feeding. There is no food. Harriet called out for M15 a few times, the only very few little morsels she found in the nest she fed to E15.
Usually M15 is a good provider, it might be not easy to find food.

9.44
E15 leaves out their frustration with no feeding on poor E16, with increasing aggressiveness

Image

9.44 less than 10 sec later again - E15 is furious

Image

Poor little E16 doesn't dare to move, although E15 now also bites if E16 doesn't move at all, not even lifts his little head.

I can no longer count how many beats and bites E16 has received since he opened his eyes this morning

10.17 glad to see poor E16 sitting up in the bowl while E15 moved to the rails

Image

Still no food......

11:47 Fish was delivered.

15 ate much of it.

16 Later got some morsels. He it screaming all the time.
While he was fed, 15 was beating him on his head and he put head in the floor many times.
He is still crying.

12:09 A change in the nest... 15 is tired and had a full crop, watching the street, relaxed.
16 is eating !! Happy!.

12:16 Time for a siesta :offtobed:

Feeding was long. Nest it quiet

:hi: Friends !

I don't understand why, but they are not bringing enough fish to the nest.

They brought a doll and bones, but babies need now fish !!

This is a private farm, they don't have to fight for food or fly a long way.

When there is enough food both parents are feeding and this is the best way.

Hope it'll be better soon

Are they really tired after this double incubation and the stress ??
