6.January

:hi:
Against 7:13 there was a breakfast- feeding. E13 got a good share at this time, his/her behaviour is almost defensive.

EDIT: following text is still of Jan 05
~ 15.00 M came down to nest, opened the fish that H brought earlier, wanted to feed the E's.

M started to feed E12 with squirrel, E13 joined, then both got fed,
H came to nest, ate a bit of the opened fish, then joined to M to the feeding,
she took bites out of M's beak, some she ate by herself, some she fed to E12.

M offered E12 a squirrel leg, H took it out of E12's beak, was too big.

H urges M to stop feeding, she wants to take over, teared the remaining food out of his talons - but didn't continue feeding - she ate it herself.
M up to the attic and H joined him on outer branch.

still Jan 05:

~ 16.20 - 16:40 H feeds fish to both, E12 dominates, E13 is aware of E12, turns around and shows his back to H and E12, H feeds E13 "from behind", E13 snatches the bites and so got fed, too.

17.21 M comes with headless fish
17.23 starts to feed both
17.24 H comes to nest, wants to feed the remaining tail of her fish to E12,
but E12 wants the fresh fish of M. H takes bites out of M's beak and feeds E12.
M wants to continue feeding E13, but must be very quick, because H steals most of them
to feed E12, but M makes sure E13 gets some bites too.

17.27 H carries the remaining squirrel to the pantry on left side
17.28 H steals M the fish and feeds only E12
17.29 M to the attic, then to pond
17.31 H now feeds a bit to E13, then devours the fishtail
17.39 H to attic, then to pond

17.41 - 17.45 E12 bonks E13 in the bowl, 3 times, as soon as E13 lifts its head
17.46 H back to attic
17.54 H heads off to west

17.55 M back to nest with a rodent, i think a mouse
and feeds lovingly to E13 - a little mouse for little E13 - while E12 was sleeping :innocent:
(smart Daddy, knew E13 didn't get as much as E12 and as much as he wanted to feed him as Mom has stolen most of the bites that M wanted to give to E13)

17.59 M stopped feeding, went up on top of the rails, looked behind over his shoulder, as
H was flying in with a stick, she wanted to place it, M wanted to help her, then both had her beaks on the stick, H und M together moving that stick back and forth, finally M took it and placed it.
Image

18.00 H discovers the rodent and carries it to the remaining squirrel on the left
18.04 H aerates, M works at the rails, then helps her aerating

18.06 M tears on a stick with a bunch of hay hanging on it, the old "haystick"
That stick stucked partly in the nestbowl, M managed to tear it out completely
Image

the hay drops from the stick, covering the E's with the hay,
E13 got totally burried under the hay :slap:

18.07 M picked up the remained squirrel, but H didn't allow - it's for the E's
18.08 M found something else and left
18.09 H settles in for the night, frees E13 from the hay
18.30 E12 and E13 sleeping outside the bowl
19.50 must became a bit chilly, both went under Mom
20.00 all sleeping, H tucked in

now Jan 06:

chilly morning, H's feathers shining wet

during this feeding, that Birdfriend already reported above,
07.17 H wanted to feed the squirrel's leg to E13 -
Image

too big of course :slap:
Image

she took it back and wanted to feed it to E12
E12 tried to swallow it, but couldn't - still too big also for E12
H took it out and ate it
Image

EDIT:
i just read this on SWFEC-reports and saw it in rewind:

"E13 starts the bonking for the day, E12 fires back."

maybe E13 dreamed this night from paying back to E12

07.18 H went on feeding, both
Image

07.21 after feeding, both were shivering
Image

so back to brood and holding them warm and safe

(I'm sorry, from now on, I probably can not follow the nest in the next few days, health concerns)

YW, Owlie :hi: :D

Just saw E13 swallowed the last piece, a really large piece of skin/pelt of the squirrel :2thumbsup:
even E12 couldn't swallow that thing down.

Maybe E13's experience teached him: eat whatever and whenever you can get

I saw that even during the first week - E13 CAN bonk! Hopefully s/he does it more often in the future in order to get equally fed at the feeding table!

I came to see at 4.35 p.m. cam time and saw a very good feeding moment  . Both babies received delicious pieces from big fish and everything went evenhandedly without bonking  .

:hi: Owlie, Birdfriend & Sylvika,

thank you very much for reporting and pictures.

I'll add three of my pics from yesterday and a video by Lady Hawk from 1.3.19:

8.34 M fed huge chunks of rabbit - to both,
sometimes so big that they partly hung out of E12's beak
Image

E13 can now also eat large pieces, even some pelt and also smaller fish bones.
Lately, E13 defensively stays behind for the feeding, lets E12 eat first and waits for his turn or snatches a bite inbetween. A strategy to avoid getting bonked.

9.00 E12 on the left, E13 on the right - feather development
Image

13.14 a good opportunity to compare the feet of the E's
E12 on the left, E13 on the right
E12 female and E13 male ????? probably...... of course not sure

7.07/08 a funny scene this morning - "breakfish":

Once E12 has eaten again, E13 snaps at this shred, didn't get it
Image

Harriet offered it then to each, E13 took it, swallowed it - and Harriet teared it out again
Image

Harriet offers again to E12 - again didn't want it

Harriet took it back, wants to make it smaller and E13 comes with its beak.....
Image

....wants to snatch it again, bites accidentally beside... right into Harriet's talon :rotf:
Image

and held it for a short while  Hey, what are you doing with my talon ? Let go !
