They must be backswimmers - there are amazing videos of them in action. There are varying reports about their underwater breathing - one account gave 120 days (?) without surfacing, others give a few hours. I gather they can get oxygen just beneath the surface of the ice.
The behavior of the caddisfly larva seems to have changed in the past couple of days - they seem be gathered together clumps now.
