The year of the buzzard is still not finished - and we have two buzzards on the migration map, maybe it is interesting to follow them a bit more closely.

Villu is a male buzzard, already tagged with a GPS transmitter last year. He spent most of the winter in Germany, in Bavaria.
He returned to his nesting area and successfully raised one chick this summer.

Villu started his migration on 12th October

Kordian is a male buzzard hatched this year and was caught about 20 km away from Villu's territory. The exact location of the nest where he hatched is not known. He was named after the Polish colleague Kordian Bartoszuk from AQUILA-IT, who is also a valued member of our forum.

Kordian started his migration already on 5th October.

Villu also crossed the border into Lithuania and still heads the same direction as Kordian, who has been taking it easy and is still in the same area. Maybe he is waiting for Villu to catch up with him?

Young Kordian is still taking a break at the same area. Villu is closing up on him, has reached the Kaunas area, is just about 70 km away from Kordian.

Villu has moved again a bit forward, but no movement for the last two days from Kordian. Maybe the transmitter did not get enough power to charge?

Kordian moved again, but still hunts in the same area.

Villu turned around (lost his wallet and went to search?) and flew back a few kilometres

Villu seems to have re-considered spending the winter in the South, he turned around and is heading north again:

Kordian still spends his time near Gražiškiai

Villu reconsidered his decision to head north again and turned back and again heads south

Young buzzard Kordian finished his break and resumed his journey south. He has reached Poland now, and thus also passed his namesake there. He covered more than 100 km since the last point in Lithuania.

Villu?

Kordian continues his flight like the days before

Image

But what is with Villu? Something happened to the logger or the GPS turned crazy?
If we believe the map, Villu flew about 3800 km straight to the Algerian desert
