It looks like bigger fish, but I could not see how much. The stream was not good at that time

19:41 storklets are sleeping again
I hope Grafs brings food too!

three feedings till now
The oldest is 55 days old. still 5 days until the first possible fledge (The earliest documented fledge was 56 days in a nest with 4 chicks) On average, they spend 65-72 days in the nest, depending on the food available.

Hatch Times:
June 12th #1 is today 55 days old
June 14th #2 is today 53 days old
June 15th #3 is today 52 days old

BTW: There are documented cases of late broods.
In late broods or 2nd clutch, the chicks often do not fledge until the end of August or beginning of September.
For example, on a nest in Schleswig-Holstein, as well as on 2 nests in Mecklenburg-Pomerania.
since they were without a transmitter, it is not known whether they made it to Africa

Because of the food supply, I do not expect an early development. They first will fledge around August 21st. That is still a long time!

Solo, a few days with three feedings
that's enough not to starve to death, but not enough for development. One cannot estimate how much they bring. You hardly see anything.

 (with amount of food I am not sure also in Jőgeva :puzzled: )

we know from the beginning that it will be a miracle if they fly away happily - I still hope, but I remain a realist
finger crossed for all this years chicks

btw. today I read (https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 93#p821793)
2020. aastal saavutas lennuvõime teadaolevalt vaid kümme must-toonekure poega kogu Eestis.
(GT  In 2020, only ten sons of black storks were known to achieve airworthiness throughout Estonia. )
10 (!) fledlings

Solo, it doesn't help me to know that it can happen. It would be very difficult for me. you know that if you watch for a long time, you like them very, very much.

:hi: Liz, Solo and others!

Now all is up to watchers... At least they can try to prevent bad ending. :slap:

 doesn't help. We both (and all the other observers) freely decided to follow them, to enter our hearts ...
There is always a risk of loss, even under good conditions, and we have already experienced them. We also experienced the loss of already big storklets in my beloved Gemenc (two consecutive seasons). It still hurts, also now tears welled up.
I hope, hope, hope

Dear asteria, Liz, Solo and other observers!

I was willing to help those storklets, when talks about bad ending started. All I recieved back was “let nature take care itself” and “we are not going to interfere”… So I stopped watching to protect myself from all this. Thought I was checking how the situation is…

Māris just wrote in chat:
We all know that there is no compassion to nature here, thus it is better not to talk about it.

Dr. Maris Strazds, 5 May 2021
.... "If there are eggs, if they hatch and no predators interfere, then the most likely scenario in this nest is that the chicks will starve to death as the parents will stop feeding them because of lack of food. Get used to the idea"
..."Forestry is accountable at the best to the money-lending banks and to its own income, but not to the forest or to what lives in it. Do you think you can change that? Then start a campaign for the drainage system cleaners, in order to explain them their responsibility (towards this nest), to install at least 4 feeding places around the nest (each bird has its own feeding areas, which hardly overlap, and "one for each" is a too risky situation), which must have water and at least 1kg of live small fish every day. Already now."

I accept Maris Strazd's decision. I think like him. It wouldn't make sense to feed them or take them to a zoo.

There will be no discussion in the chat about this matter. the chatter will not be able to decide what to do with the storks. they should do it like me ... just stop watching if you can't stand it.
