Good bye, dear Kaupo!

Liz thanks also for your good bye video with Kaupo :2thumbsup: .

See you in spring again (or earlier in another thread  ), Liz, Solo, Michi, Birdfriend and all other watchers!

Liz, do you know anything new about our Ozols? If I remember well (?) your wrote that storklets were visible in his nest this season. Can we assume that it was his family?

Good evening to all of you

I also send lot of thanks to Looduskalender and sending a financial contribution there.

I'm wrong  I was not really sure, I just guessed it! Also that we have a new couple. But I read that in the Latvian forum and probably misunderstood. The good thing is, when you actually get feedback!

I found it:

Latvian is not easy!

I've wrote in the chat:
We know that another couple was in this nest last year. At the beginning and also during the season there were some fights. Whether this is the former owner, I can not say

Comment (s) on today's stranger (M.S.)
Why do you think so? I’m pretty certain that Kaupo is the former „Eigentümer” – although this term is certainly not appropriate – he doesn’t own the place; at most he uses it and even then he might just co-use it – assumption that male is „owner” at the end of the day may appear to be wrong. He just happened to arrive a little later than some other male, whom he kicked out. Before that two females kicked out each other, so nesting pair both are second in each of sexes. I have some pictures of last year breeding bird, presumably male – it had very strong up curved beak – just like Kaupo had. Could check for similarities – will do so some day when there will be time for that.

Second – I guess that this bird is a female (7:3). Could check with the 1st arrived bird if pictures videos/exist but, very likely this could be ANY strange stork passing bye. That is very normal behavior – to use strange nest for „short landing”. We have dozens of evidences from trail-cameras.

Thank you, Maris. I still have to learn a lot!

Liz, you are right with visitor - no Kaupo, no Gaja (Michi  ), but strange stork
without ring or another very specific differentia it is all still only speculation who is who

The documentation on this thread was perfect - not overloaded with a flood of more or less the same pictures, not spammed, there was no competition of who posts most. Only useful objective comments - was a pleasure to follow. Thank you to all contributors.

Hello and good bye to all watchers and writers in this topic!

Liz, the most thanks go to you...it was a very good season in this nest, great parents and their wonderful and healthy offsprings, which were very nice to each other. When a season is over we bird lovers are always a bit sentimental.
I send greetings to Liz, Solo, Sue and Michi and hope, that we can meet us again in the next spring.
Have a good time!

Liz, especially thanks for the last pics from the last visits from Kaupo and the other stork.

Good Morning Solo, Sue, Birdfreind and everyone :hi:

Birdfriend :hi: you are welcome.
not the amount of postings is crucial. Everyone does it the way he has time. I was happy about every post :2thumbsup:

Interesting to know!
It has been documented here in various threads, that there are greenish excretions was seen.
That's not feces, it's creamy urine.

(I'm just reading about the danger to the legs when the storks have rings.)
This creamy urine dries cementitiously on the rings and prevents the excrement from running down the legs. This causes the legs to become constricted.
So I am very happy that the Estonian chicks have backpacks and no leg transmitters.

:hi: everybody!
It looks like the storklets left the nest earlier than in Lodz and Karula because it got ruined and it is not comfortable to stay there anymore.
