It is very sad to see.
How fast it went.
And the parents with fresh food for the little one.
I hope Rosznieks and Raza won't be back and find another, hopefully better place for breeding...

I just happened to come across a report on a German portal.
I am not a fan of relevant hunting portals but this nest and the loss has reached many.

https://www.jagderleben.de/news/habicht ... era-711968
I hope Rosznieks and Raza won't be back and find another, hopefully better place for breeding...
I read this sentence very often. In many forums of different nests. (So in this forum in different topics. I'm only here on the move.)
Birds are always aware of their enemies and dangers. But it is also important that there is enough food in a territory. An area without a hawk is not a guarantee of successful breeding. And we experienced both again this season - too little food. Maybe too little for hawks.

It's a shame for each of the chicks ... for all of them!

LVM mazais ērglis Aizkuja - Lesser Spotted Eagle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHfwYq8ozz0

GT:
JSC "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) offers an opportunity to observe the success of bird nesting in five online cameras. Anyone interested, without leaving the house, can follow the events of golden eagles, buzzard, lesser spotted eagles nests - in Bethinsala and Aizkuja, as well as enjoy unique moments and sounds that are unique to the swamp.

"The information obtained with the help of webcams is used in the preparation of scientific publications and is very important in learning about the nesting biology of birds and substantiating their protection," explains LVM senior environmental expert Uģis Bergmanis.

AS "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) piedāvā iespēju vērot putnu ligzdošanas sekmes piecās tiešsaistes kamerās.

Hooray, finally online:
Dabas dokumentālā filma "Mazie ērgļi Latvijā"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvn2_L5x2xE

I don't understand a word and there are no subtitles - which could be clumsily and automatically translated - available, but I'll just try . Have fun!

I'll post this link also in the Aquila Pomarina Collection.

Yes, it's a pity there are no English subtitles. Too expensive I guess. But it might help if these films were available to a much broader audiance.

And now....in English /with English subtitles:

LESSER SPOTTED EAGLES IN LATVIA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpwMcpFTc5M

Quote:"The nature documentary tells about the life of lesser spotted eagles, showing the life cycle of the bird, but it is also a story about natural processes in a broader sense. The habitats necessary for a sustainable existence of lesser spotted eagles – old forests with large trees, meadows and pastures – are home to a great diversity of nature; therefore, by restoring habitats suitable for lesser spotted eagles, the diversity of the ecosystem as a whole is preserved. The film shows the processes of habitat restoration in Kuja Nature Park and Grivu Island in Lubana, highlights the lesser spotted eagle-friendly farming opportunities. For several seasons, the authors of the film followed the work of the project manager and ornithologist Jānis Ķuze inspecting the nests of lesser spotted eagles and working to ensure their protection.

Film produced by art center RUCKA, director and camera: Māris Maskalāns"
