Lesser Spotted Eagles - LDF Mazais ērglis tiešraide 1 - 2018

Post by Felis silvestris »

This is a new LSE camera in Latvia. This LSE camera is supported by the Latvian Fund for Nature under the project "Protection of the Little Eagle in Latvia" (LIFE AQPOM), which is financially supported by the European Commission LIFE + program and co-financed by the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund Administration. The camera by placed by Janis Ķuze and Janis Rudzītis with the support of Valdis Lukjanovs and Janis Jansons!

The nest place is located in the region of Zemgalē (English: Semigallia) in southern Latvia, the green part of the map.

The nest in Zemgale region was found in July 2017, when there was one nestling. Still the breeding was not successful – the young eagle died shortly before leaving the nest.
The structure of the nest indicates that it has been in use for long time. The nest is located in spruce rather low above the ground, on a thick branch about a meter from the main trunk. It is closely pressed to a trunk of a neighbouring aspen-tree and is hard to see from the ground. The nest tree is located about 50 m from the edge of the field.

Confusing that this cam is called "Lesser spotted eagle webcam 1 in Latvia" while there are two older Latvian cams already running. One of them was cam 1 last year and the other was 2.

the reason could be the latvian consecutive numbering of the cameras including Golden Eagle and Purv, which were 1 and 2.
the both others, LSE, had 3 and 4 in the URL. i suppose that now the LSE cams get a new own numbering and the old ones keep their number???
New cams get the free digit.
boah, what confused thoughts in these early hours... i should better stop now.

the aspen cam had in Latvia "number 3":
Mazie ērgļi, ligzda apsē, LVM, 2018 (Trīne un Trīzelnieks)
ls.lv/kamera_3/mp4:kamera
and the Spruce cam had "number 4":
Mazie ērgļi, ligzda eglē, LVM, 2018 (Betiņa un Betiņš)
ls.lv/kamera_4/mp4:kamera

The cameras are maintained by 2 different organisations, the LVM („Latvijas valsts meži” - Latvian State Forest - https://www.lvm.lv/en/about-us) and Dr. Bergmanis looks after the "old known" 2 cameras and this one is looked after by "Latvijas Dabas fonds" - Latvian Fund for Nature - https://ldf.lv/en/ and Janis Kuze, who also looks after the WtE camera. I try to avoid numbering them as this also changed in the past, if we have inhabitants with names, I will switch it over!
