10:31 two blue tits and a wood pigeon.
i stacked them all in one picture, the wood pigeon from two frames. the tits were here first, together at the same time (the yellow ellipse).
when the wood pigeon flew to the right branch the tit on the right flew away.
Image

10:33 the wood pigeon flew away and i think she landed somewhere behind the nest. i didn't find her leaving.

i didn't notice these sounds when i made the video. that last sounds were missing so i made a new longer clip.
those were funny sounds. to me it sounded like a big animal sneezing.

15:01 a blue tit. then two blue tits! they didn't fight. these were together, a male and a female. Mrs Blue Tit has so plain colours that she almost got lost in the background.

oh wow, Liz, that's not a wood pigeon. what kind of pigeon is it? :puzzled:
a stock dove (Columba oenas)? yes, it is!
this may be the first visit of a stock dove here. :2thumbsup:
the main colour is the same as with the wood pigeon: the pigeon grey, but the big difference is that the stock pigeon has almost no white in her plumage. only very thin stripes on the sides of the tail. they can't be seen from far. the tip of the tail is dark/black like in the wood pigeon.

the stock dove has some iridescent green and red patches on her throat (shiny "metal colours") while the wood pigeon is mostly matte (without gloss). the beak is light and legs pink. a very beautiful bird.

An ordinary city pigeon, of which we have millions.

no no no Sonchik, it was not an ordinary pigeon. those live in cities. this is a forest inhabitant. in Finnish it has been sometimes called the 'wood pigeon'.

city pigeons (Columba livia domestica) originate from rock pigeons (Columba livia)

did you see the pigeon leave? - it doesn't matter though. the stock dove beats 100 wood pigeons 6 to 0.

the grey Latvia in the distribution map be missing statistics. i'm sure that there are stock doves in Latvia if all neighbours have it.
yes, it is mentioned in the list of Latvian birds:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_birds_of_Latvia
and here (unfortunately in Latvian):
http://www.putni.lv/coloen.htm
translation:
"In Latvia, a relatively rare breeder in older forests where hollow trees can be found. As a result, it is distributed unevenly - more in the seashore area, along the edges of bogs, and elsewhere where hollow pines or aspens are found. Used black woodpecker cavities are used for nesting. Larger number of migrates (through Latvia). Not often with wood pigeons in autumn, but the largest clean flocks are observed in spring. In recent years, it is also observed relatively regularly in the winter months.

Length: 32-34 cm, wingspan: 63-69 cm (Snow, Perrins 1998)."

The main difference between the city pigeon and the stock dove are their eyes.
City pigeon has red eyes, the stock dove has black (or dark) eyes.
This was 100% a stock dove.

It is mainly a forest dweller and the only species of doves/pigeons that breeds in tree hollows.
Hence its name in German is: Hohl-Taube (Hohl = hollow)

Stock doves fly to southern Europe or western Europe in winter. In the spring they set out again to their breeding habitat.

[img]https://up.picr.de/41188376fm.jpg[ /img]

i think he was flying towards the nest tree and quacked above the neat rather near.

3:17 tree frogs were singing in the night. these are real frogs, not flying. (i made a sample).
