May 17

good morning!

00:31 loud crash sounds as if sticks dropping. the sound seemed to come from under the nest. (?) :puzzled:

the sticks seem to have moved a little but i can't see anything missing. :puzzled:
in the evening picture the sticks are still dry and grey. later yesterday evening it was raining hard when it became dark and it's raining again so the sticks are are dark and brown.

for comparison of the sounds in the night i looked up two incidents with a pine marten visiting a nest. these are from year 2012.
May 19 a pine marten attacked the buzzard's nest. the female buzzard Pruuni made much more noise with her wings than the marten made.

the egg didn't hatch after all and was left on the nest.
June 17 a pine marten took the egg. this time it was raining hard and the sound of rain is practically the only thing that can be heard. (the microphone wasn't nearly as good as ours now)

based on this evidence i don't think that a pine marten made the noise last night. also owls are out of the question because they move quite without sound unless they decide to call.

7:19 a thrush visited. i think it was a song thrush, or at least not a redwing as i didn't see any red on the sides. (the name of the redwing is not logical since the red colour is on the sides, not on the wings.)
i stacked here 7 images of the same bird plus an enlargement of the first image. can you find them all?

the thrush was first talking on the top tik - tik - tik... in a very high-pitch voice. then he dropped to the poop branch and from there to the lower tight next to the kingfisher.

after that he went downstairs but returned to the top branch.
in the centre panel the thrush is standing in a rather typical posture: rather upright and wings drooping a little. note the notch in the end of the tail.

thank you Florinda!
again a blue tit. i estimate roughly that at least 90 % of the little birds seen on the nest are blue tits.
11:08 a blue tit again. :D

20:38 a little bird on the left branch. this was not a blue tit. instead he seemed to have red on her head. it was a European goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis).

male and female goldfinches look identical. this was singing on the branch so i think this was a male.

i don't mind the eagles being away. we see so many other birds on the nest, live and singing.

the stream has been a little unstable in the past few days. there have been a lot of shorter or longer breaks with random lengths. that's very annoying. :bash:

May 18

good morning!

3:04 rustling on the nest. this sounded similar as the noise in the previous night. strange.

Sonchik, you found a wood pigeon, or actually two. :2thumbsup:
i think i'll add a clip of these fly-by's here. it doesn't disturb the chroronology too much.
