good evening!
today was a busy day with two visits by Mr L, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon with Milda (very probably) on the top. between the visits they both called many times in the forest. besides the eagles ravens visited the nest many times and called a lot in the forest near the nest. - the excavator (or whatever machine it is) was working in the forest somewhere.

Wet and dark day.

10:49 A couple of "Blackies" came in, calling.

11:05 Flying all over the nest and pooping on the let side.

That visiting young female got a huge fright upon spotting the camera.

She seemed a pretty big individual.

i agree, the young stranger looked like a big female. i think she was 3 CY old.
she got a shock when she saw the camera.

9:14 both a male and a female eagle called in the forest.
9:29 a male eagle called.

10 am - about 2 pm a flock of ravens had a flying circus around the nest. someone suggested in the YT chat that there was a carcass in the forest, but i'm not so sure about this... if there were a carcass the ravens and crows would have been there making a racket in one place. they wouldn't be flying around the nest tree and the meadow and visiting the nest.
some of the ravens and also hooded crows made very funny voices when they visited the top. no-one made the "platypus" calls so source of the mystery call remains without confirmation.

7:27:25 a pygmy owl whistled.
7:31:10 again
7:33:05 again
7:35:58 again.
7:36:28 two pygmy owls called one after the other!
... or was it a long call by one owl?

i missed that magpie when i was looking for a magpie who called. this sneaked quietly to the top, and so did the ravens, too. that was unusual because they made so much noise.
they also left quietly at some point.
here' the whole stay of the strange young eagle in the Observation Oak (or on some other tree near it)


there was so much air traffic that i'm quite content if these 3 birds were the only ones that i missed yesterday.

by the way: one more thing from yesterday. mega2 thought that there may have been two strange eagle at 14:01.

i think that the bird in the top right corner was a raven. i took about 20 frames of that bird flying by (actually there was also another bird following this bird). in only one or two pictures the tail was not completely black. in the other pictures the tail was totally black. i think that the tail feathers were fanned out so much that light shone through them and produced an illusion of them not being totally black. (besides one stranger is enough for one day. )

by the way: in a grey weather like yesterday the ravens sometimes look grey, not totally black as they are in reality. this is because their plumage is so glossy that the feathers reflect light which makes then look grey. a few times in the past days i thought i saw an eagle which then turned out to be a raven. they are not easy birds.

10:35 AME Look at the meadow!

yes, there were two suns: one in the sky and the other swimming on the lake.
now it's grey again...

13:04 an adult eagle flew to the top branch.i think it was our Mr L but he was very impolite: he stayed on the top branch and didn't show his tail properly. only at 13:07 when he was preening and after 13:30:53 when he pooped he showed his tail a little. the little he showed matched Mr L. any way i believe that it was he. who else?
13:21 - 13:24 a raven came to sing to him. still no "platypus" voices, only "water drops".

after sitting on the top branch for an hour Mr L flew away.

Is there a plan to give L a normal name?

It's very hard to search by one letter.

Until it will be decided, can I call him Lord? or hubby2 of our lady?

Abigyl, i agree: a simple one letter for a name is not good.
the Latvians are superstitious and don't want to give him a proper name before they see that he stays. it's the same as with Milda. then they were superstitious about the female at the nest after the losses of Durbe and Shilute. i hope that he will have a name by the time the chicks of him and Milda hatch. *sigh*

in the later afternoon hunters were in the forest for about an hour. it didn't sound like they got anything although a few shots were fires. after each shot they continued shouting.
the rest of the evening went normally except that at 19:33 someone woke up a group of crows who started calling in the dark. i can't remember hearing anything like that before. they were rather far.

I saw on Corona map of Europe, that all the Baltic countries are really red.

How did the hunters come? There are no restrictions in Latvia?

Few days ago we had rare fog around noon. Suddenly we heard dozens of crows screaming and flying around. They looked for trees because they were sure it's already night, during the day...

I saw on Florida's nest that when the storms are coming they also scream and fly.

Abigyl, maybe the hunters drove each their own car? in the forest it was easy to maintain safety distances...

the ravens had a flight circus day again. at one point more ravens flew to the top than ever flew away from there.
some of them made very interesting voices on the top, like a homesick dog-puppy. still no "platypus" voices.
