Good Morning!
About eagles age:
I'm always asking because it is counted by Winters and not by human calendar.
So even after 10 years of watching and reading forums, I'm asking for help

I wanted to write yesterday, but I forgot.
An eagle doesn't care what we call it, even if we call it a sparrow. But people do care what the eagles are called. If people watch this camera and read this topic, it's important to them. In this case, you need to respect the people and not the eagles, I think. The Eagles will forgive us. With people, it's much more complicated. Do not escalate the situation.ame wrote: ↑June 19th, 2021, 1:12 pm i have once told how i was educated by a native English speaker about the use of the pronouns "she", "he" and "it". she said that the pronoun it should only be used about inanimate things, not any living creatures. saying "it" about a living creature is considered impolite towards this creature.
instead living animals are called "she" and "he" even if their sex is not known.

8:23 a dark brown bird of prey, bigger than a sparrowhawk. could it / she / he be a buzzard? or a honey buzzard? the honey buzzard has yellow eyes and the 'normal' buzzard dark eyes.
at this time of the year this bird should be at one year old.
dark chocolate brown, stripy tail with the very tip being light. stripy but dark backside.
yellow eyes and dark beak with somewhat lighter cere. the tips of the wings were not as long as the tail feathers when the wings were folded.
she was digging the nest and tried to move some sticks.
thank you mega2 and Andra in YT chat!

a post from Jānis in DDF:
"Hello!
Commentary on the ringed birds seen here in recent days - both of Durbe's nest are already known:
H491 (ringed on 29.05.2017 in SW Kurzeme), this bird was also seen in Durbe nest on 26.10.2018;
H434 (ringed on 28.05.2016 in W Kurzeme), also visited Durbe nest on 18.07.2020.
Thank you for your attention! As uncertainty continues with the future hosts of this nest, we can expect other observations of ringed birds. "
the pictures were good enough. yeah!
both birds were old friends.

Komentārs par pēdējo dienu laikā te redzētajiem gredzenotajiem putniem - abi Durbes ligzdai ir jau zināmi:
H491 (gredzenots 29.05.2017. DR Kurzemē), šis putns Durbes ligzdā ir redzēts arī 26.10.2018;
H434 (gredzenots 28.05.2016. R Kurzemē), apmeklēja Durbes ligzdu arī 18.07.2020.
Paldies par vērību! Turpinoties nenoteiktībai ar nākamajiem šīs ligzdas saimniekiem, varam sagaidīt arī citus gredzenotu putnu novērojumus.

Sigge, you are absolutely right!
i should always count the years using my fingers.
Calendar years are counted so that the hatching year is always the first Calendar Year. this is different than for humans. i suppose this makes it so difficult for me.
for our Angelina year
2015 was her 1st CY
2016 2nd
2017 3rd
2018 4th
2019 5th
2020 6th
and finally this year is her 7th CY although she is "only" 6 years old now plus some months.
winter age is counted so that winter 2015-16 was Angelina's 1st winter,
2016-2017 2nd winter
2017-2018 3rd winter etc.
this becomes even more complicated as years increase. that's why Calendar years are preferred when ages of older eagles are counted.
as what comes for the pronouns i shall continue to follow the advise of my English friend. the language of the forum is English and i'll try to follow the English "tradition" or "practise". - i admit that sometimes i fail to do so, especially when i'm not certain even about the species of the bird that i see. in those cases i usually write "it".
in other cases i'll write either "she" or "he". often i have some grounds to make a choice in either way although i don't always write down an elaborate explanation (although i apparently should to satisfy the more demanding members). sometimes i simply try my luck and choose either "she" or "he". in those cases i'll have 50 % probability of making a correct guess, or, if i happen to choose incorrectly the mistake is not critical.

7:47 a little grey bird who sang! this was a chaffinch!
- or at least a chiffchaff was singing at the same time as the bird was visible.
if the visible bird was singing it was probably a male. their job is to sing.

8:13 a blue tit collected feathers.
this was probably a female. in tit families the females build the nest. males concentrate on singing, watching the female and looking good.
the cap on her head is rather dull blue. the colours of females are not as bright as the males'.

Please tell me what that very loud yell/call is.
What animal keeps that kind of noise?
It has shouted right now several times,
for instance 19.33 - 19.37.
