this kick-boxing picture is the best shot of the second eagle's ring. no good for reading, too bad.
Thanks, ame!
Yes, K014 can be identified for second day now. Rings of another bird can not be seen good enough to be sorted out - I went through the full resolution video frame by frame. Both eagles have hatched in 2012 - now they are old enough to show some more serious interest in the nests/breeding territories.
What we have seen before is the different reaction of nest owners towards strangers that are in the breeding age - they are much more aggressive compared to the cases when nest was visited by some youngsters.

you could see well that it was serious. they need a nest. There are not enough trees, the are suitable. The habitat must also agree.
Robert can defend the nest? Or is he to old?
I've read, that the fights are very hard. It can end badly?

BTW- It has snowed?

the Ravens are not well seen in the video. A close up would be nice :shake:
i'm not quite sure if this close-up shows the ravens well or much better than the normal view. :slap:

here's a normal view clip of the two ravens.

the camera went to sleep at 17:00:36

thank you Janis for the information.

i looked through the Pontu pictures from this morning and to me it seems that at least one of the young eagles was in a tree in the background already at 9:14 when the camera started. also the other seemed to take off from somewhere near there.

someone in DD wrote that these two probably were were of the same sex and that's why they had this little match on the nest. quite another thought crossed my mind: what if they were of opposite sexes? they may be two youngsters getting to know each other... perhaps K014, the eagle who kicked out the second today, is a female who has not warmed up to the advances of the second who is perhaps a male.
and perhaps he doing all kinds of pranks to her, like pulling her pigtails and trying to give her snow-washes in the face, like smitten boys do to a girl of their fancy. this is pure speculation of course, but maybe we saw a glimpse of a beginning of a beautiful relationship.

here's practically all of this i think, except the last wing beats of a raven flying away a few seconds after 15:06 but it could not be seen.
i have no clue what the ravens were up to, unless they were just checking the developments at the nest. :D

i see that the camera works. it's the stream that stopped.

8:10 the stream is back. :D

Eagle Urmas from Estonia explained once to me that the GSM-technique used by Latvians to transmit the signal is new and not quite compatible with the streaming technique used by EENET. the signal is sometimes choppy and EENET then looses the signal. (or something like that).
i looked up his exact words. i think i may quote Urmas here:
"...new approach for translation of video from nest, GSM router. But that system for outdoor use is not well developed and makes disruption of translation quite often (they don't know, why exactly). Therefore EENet server needs to ask very often about video from nest, but also streaming is often canceled because of no data transmitted. But server software is not designed for that kind of data."

8:20 it's getting light.
