11:24 a spotty-bottomed eagle arrive. they start nest work. these seem to be friends.
mating attempt. the girl didn't like it.
so the white-tailed is a male and the spotty-bottom is a female (in the traditional interpretation. )
she went up to the left branch.
11:26:50 an eagle's voice from outside??
it's in the end of this clip.

Sova, she seems very tired. So she closes her eyes now and then
EDIT: I see it now too. Perhaps she has an irritation in her eye?

I also wondered about her eye.

11:34 the girl came down from the branch. both made some nest work. now she seemed to like the male again.
it seems that she is intentionally keeping her right eye continually closed. she was also hanging her right wing when she was on the branch.
she may have scratched it somewhere.
continually began to sound strange in my head so i had to check if it is a real word. it seems to be. it's the same as continuously, meaning 'without break' or 'all the time'.

No wonder, as they have dangerous mating habits (stepping on her head etc.), as you pointed out in the morning.Liz01 wrote:Perhaps she has an irritation in her eye?

I remember, Robert also had such an irritation. A day later, everything was good again.

I think I used it. For me it looked strange too. But I found no other designation.ame wrote: continually began to sound strange in my head so i had to check if it is a real word. it seems to be. it's the same as continuously, meaning 'without break' or 'all the time'. [/size]

12:03 the male jumped to the branch and showed its tail spots. the female followed him and called a little.
just seconds before 12:05 both flew away, the male first and the female followed.

13:00 there are some deer walking behind the nest where the parent's oak used to be.
they came in view at about 12:50 and stayed there for nearly 20 min. there were at least 6 of them but i think i was able to count even 8.
i made a close-up clip in double speed.
also double-speed sounds silly although not as silly as slow-motion. i took the sound from the live stream which was playing in the background.

i have made some pictures with the tail marks of the eagles. they are easiest for me to study. i hope these are useful.
these were taken on March 3.
in the morning there was a spotty female (?) who didn't have much black in the centre of the tail. i call this eagle the "no-AnchorTail" eagle. the other spotty female (who people in DD call Erna and who is the girl who is still around) has a pattern of black spots which together remind me of an anchor.
this is the male who was at the nest later on March 3.

on March 4 another spotty female was on the nest with a white-tailed male. i believe this female is called Erna. she has the anchor- like pattern on her tail.
this is the male who was with her.
i suppose this is Raimis or at least he is the male whom Erna (the girl) likes. i think we can call him Raimis.

@ Ame: March. It is March, not February.
I can call the eagles whatever the forum community decides. But probably there will always be doubt that these Erna and Raimis may not be the "original" Erna and Raimis. Not a big problem though.

thanks Trine! i'll upgrade my calendar.
yes, the names are irrelevant. i don't think that the present Erna will become an eagle mummy this year, not if she keeps kicking male(s) off her back.

13:55 an insect crawled over the screen.
isn't it winter?
do you have suggestions for identification?
i suggest some stonefly- or Plecoptera-species:
the Finnish Wikipedia says that the larvae live in cold streaming water and that's what there is right under this tree. at least in Finland these insects can be seen crawling on snow in the early spring.

14:47 a spotty-bottomed eagle with hanging wing and some pearls on the back came. Erna (?).
yes, i think it's Erna. she has the big anchor pattern on her tail.
