And this was the saga of...

The most expensive ring ever sold by Sotheby's

Many of us "saw" the "ring", so don't think about it again, it was sold :rotf:

These branches with cones are visible in the photo of 2015.

it pooped before leaving. :whistling:

7:29:52 A bird flew to the right

I just read that you can not distinguish between sparrowhawk and Goshawk if they are seen here. I did some research because I thought it could be a goshawk too.
They can only be distinguished by direct comparison. They look the same and differ only in size
Other characteristics are not so easily recognizable, longer legs and longer middle toe. (Goshawk)
The weight can not be appreciated and not the size.
What you can see is, that the bones above the eyes are more pronounced by the goshawk, but there are also some sparrowhawks, that have pronounced bones over their eyes.

Here is a document with the distinguishing features: (only in German)

Robis?

Liz, my bird guide says that the size of a sparrowhawk is 29 - 34 cm (male) and 35 - 41 cm (female). the corresponding measurements of goshawks are 49 -56 cm and 58 - 64 cm. so the male goshawk is lager than the female sparrowhawk.
a jay is 32 - 35 cm long (a nutcracker is the same btw) and a hooded crow is 44 - 51 cm.
i think that the hawks that have been seen here are more the same size a jays rather than crows.

7:29 this bird looked like a wood pigeon to me. i got on bad and worse pictures but i think i saw white flash on the wing in some of them. also the silhouette looked pigeon-like.
in the third picture the white is from the sky but in the last two pigeons the white/light spots are on the pigeons wings.
(the two first pictures remind me of a mallard, too, but i don't think it was a mallard. )

8:46:26 a light rather big bird flew by on the left.

6:56 the first visit of the sparrow hawk. i think we can rather safely say it was a sparrow hawk because it was so small.

7:11 the second visit.
https://youtu.be/mqPvRT23AUc
i made a close-up clip of this visit: the hawk in sunrise.

i remembered that we had a crow stopping on the same branch yesterday morning. i made a pair of pictures for size comparison. the birds were standing on the same place. this is very important for comparison of sizes because the distance to the camera affects the apparent size of objects a lot.
the crow is bigger than the hawk.

9:22 a jay visited.
https://youtu.be/hOa1PXQaScc

10:41 the green twig drop was not a work by a little bird. it had to be done by someone big.
https://youtu.be/evjLKR1TWz4

shortly after that the tree shook. it looked like someone big took off from the top. nothing could be seen.
https://youtu.be/UNMbHLJO7u8

i tried to find the arrival of the big bird to the top but i could not find it. the tree was shaking too much in the wind.
