14:32:20 klong-klo-klong. did a stick drop? :puzzled: Miks got up and started looking down...
if a stick fell it was not his doing.

14:33 he started the stick dance.

Miks flew out. Rika stayed in the tree top.

14:41 Rika flew away from the tree. she cried on the way, or it was Miks.

then both cried.

Yes. We are always talking probability.
ame wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 10:44 am almost the only way is to look at the frequency of their wing beat. big birds like eagles wave their wings in slow pace while smaller birds flap their wings much faster.
Precisely. It is the other reason why I think it was a big bird. It flew quickly and its wings and slow beat were seen well enough only for a split second in SloMo.

15:00 the crying stopped. it faded away. the eaglets probably called at each other without seeing a parent or a fish.

now they began again.

Sonchik wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 11:01 am The actions of the corvids are quite reasonable.
I would not call the actions of WTE unreasonable. I am not sure reasonable means product of thinking.
It was you who wrote the other day that you did not think WTE highly intelligent.
You also said they had no sense of cause and effect.
Yet for thinking, especially strategic thinking, that would be a requirement.
Sonchik wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 11:01 am But how to separate instincts from reasonable actions, I do not know.
Nor do I. One would need to define these terms before discussing if and where they are applicable.
Sonchik wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 11:01 am When I wrote about subconscious calculations, I responded to this message.
Better I would quote but there was no time. On phone it long.
We are predators too, to some extent and too we are able to do it.
No worry about quoting, I understood what you were referring to. To me instinct belongs to that subconscious work of the brain.
If the cat started to think how much strength it requires to reach the mouse the mouse would easily escape. When a driver begins to think about his possibilities in a dangerous situation, he might crash. In both cases the brain does most of the work below consciousness. As far as I know, over 90% of what our brain does it does without our "help", i.e on a subconscious level. The outcome very often is quite reasonable.

15:04 one eaglet flew by from right to left. Miks i think.
Image

then he flew to the top and is crying there...Rika cries in the forest.

edit: i watched the video again and i saw that Miks flew to the top from the direction of the Fish Market. he probably saw what was coming and called so much because of that.

Sonchik wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 11:14 am You learned to distinguish eaglets subconsciously.
Through some time you will also "know" what size the bird flies and is how far.
This bird really was small flew closer than Milda.
It is necessary to look many hours to begin to feel it. I precisely know it on myself.
Sonchik, I have great respect for your many precise observations. But I am surprised that you think you can make a (indirect) judgement about how many hours I have or have not spent watching birds and estimating distances. :puzzled:
As to that bird, obviously we have different estimates. That either of us "knows" what bird it was, I would seriously doubt.

15:25 Miks flew to the outer left branch.

he is complaining about Rika eating the fish and Rika cries back at him. Miks can't help it: Rika is eating this time.

15:42 both started looking in the sky on the left side and forgot to call, and Rika forgot to eat.

isn't it a bit futile to discuss a bird who was seen several days ago? we shall never know who or what it was and after all it only flew by... :puzzled:

Excuse me! Image I wrote that I judge by myself.
Earlier I could not define any bird at distance. I asked all the time - who it?
Now my opinion coincides with skilled participants, in most cases. I drew a conclusion that accumulated experience.
Certainly at all differently. But experience is gathered by all. There is no concrete number of hours. Someone quicker, someone more slowly. Even at one person in different areas it is gathered with a different speed.

15:58 Rika swallowed the last piece of fish. Miks cried loud.
Image

the quality of my original video was so bad that i made a new one.

the crying stopped after the last piece of food had disappeared. both are content: Rika with her full crop and Miks with his destiny. better luck next time.

no problem Sonchik. 8-)
