Good morning!
I think it's an animal. When I heard it, I didn't have any bird associations.

Yesterday's videos.

Raimis flew in on the right at 14:53:43. They were together. That 's why Milda looked around all the time.

i think they were upstairs. someone was dropping things down.
16:10 - 11 they came in view again. i didn't make a video of this. they were not so much in view as earlier.
...
I didn't send to cut this visit out of the video. There were interesting moments.

Sonchik, :hi:
I do not know a mammal that cries in this way.
it was the yelling from an eaglet. At least for me.

Liz01 wrote: November 12th, 2019, 8:24 am 8:23:16 screaming eaglet??? I have not heard it for a long time It took a while for me to recognize it.

It was for sure an eaglet.. a screaming eaglet :loveshower:

mega2 thinks it wasn't an eaglet :puzzled:

ame :help:

good morning!
thank you for the reports Liz! :2thumbsup:
my very first thought was a piglet. after a bout 2 seconds the screaming went stranger, but i think it was a wild boar anyway. certainly not an eaglet. maybe some predator killed a piglet? or killed some other mammal? to me it does not sound like a bird... :puzzled:
i remember reading somewhere that in death pains even an animal who is mostly very quiet (like a hare) may scream in a horrifying way, very loud.

there's even a Finnish saying about this: someone "is screaming like a frog in a harrow's stick" when he is screaming like that animal on Liz' video.
a primitive harrow:

11:16 a very loud raven somewhere near but out of sight, probably on the top. then another raven flew by on the lower right corner. here are two best of the blurred screen captures which i could take.
Image

11:18:15 a poopshot from upstairs, very near bull's eye at 8 o'clock.

then the voices stopped. i could not see when the raven flew away.

Now I had enough time to listen to 08:23 calls, on computer & phone:

08:19 Milda saw something on the right upper meadow... she flew over there.

08:23 There were 2 kinds of calls, different animals, at the same time. One of them was an eaglet. The calls came from the right side (Milda saw someone?)
Who was the other?

08:27 There was another call, perhaps the second creature.

i made a video with the first screaming which started at 8:23 and the latter voices which started at about 8:26:30.

i still don't hear an eaglet calling there. :puzzled:
i think that a jay shrieked once or twice in the latter period and then there was the same 'screamer' as earlier.

Good afternoon

Since everyone is talking about those horrible screams at 8:23 this morning, i decided to look it up aswell.
It certainly sounds like there are more than one creature involved, at 8:23:13-14 it sounds a lot like an eaglet screaming while flying, making those yodeling sounds. But it might be only wishful thinking :whistling:

Thank you all for reports and videos-pics :2thumbsup:

Thanks Crissy for putting the "point on the i" ! Excellent explanation!

This is what I heard, it sounded twice, while the other one is screaming all the time.

November 13

Good Morning all :hi:

thank you for videos and reporting :2thumbsup:

It's still dark. It sounds like gusts of wind. But it does not seem as windy as yesterday?

I have to go back to the Baltic Sea in half an hour. But I will not stay there. So I will be back in Berlin until 15:00 - 16:00.

good morning!

i think that the hooligans were red crossbills again. they attacked the cones.
they spent a long time here again. i made a 10 min-video of their visit, but they spent a longer time around.

there are two other species, too, the parrot crossbill (Loxia pytyopsittacus) and the two-barred crossbill (Loxia leucoptera). the latter has large white spots or bars on the wings, which our birds have not had. leucoptera means 'white-winged'
i think we have seen red crossbills (Loxia curvirostra) here.
my bird guide says that red and parrot crossbills are tricky to separate. one would need to measure the dimensions of their bills to be certain about who is who. parrots are more robust than reds.

crossbills were here also two days ago. mega2 got some nice pictures of them:
https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.p ... 38#p234128
there was a very stripy bird among them. that was a juvenile crossbill.

10:35 again voices of crossbills....
some stopped on the poop branch. ... they flew away but i can still hear them. a lot of their voices. the crossbills must be the most numerous bird species in the forest now. :D

sorry, Abigyl, i forgot the publish-button again. i'm not my best at mornings. :slap:

thank you Crissy!
i didn't find when the raven exactly arrived but i think he called for the first time when he was landing. ravens are so heave that they could shake the tree a lot.

the raven flew away o the direction of the Fish Market.

15:29 a flock of cross bills are on the nest tree. One of them takes a pine cone and flew with it
15:31 a male cross bill landed on the left branch with a pine cone and another male is in the nest and is eating.

A female flew with a pine cone on the poop branch
