Black Stork nest in Portugal

Hi all!
The place where the BS went was their nest three years ago. And maybe it will be theirs this year...

Yesterday and today another couple of GV has been seen in this nest, mating and bringing brunches and repairing the nest. It is rather late but this winter was more cold and rainy than it is usual so the breeding season is quite confused.

This year we will not see the BS nest as it will be (I hope) under this nest. Anyway, if I go there I promise I will post some pics here.

But you will see that young GV are really really cute
If everything is OK the first one will be born on the 27th/28th March and this one on the 6th/7th May (it's quite late for GV and the mother seems quite young but let's think that everything will be fine).

Hi Fleur

You captured an interesting situation. The GV that is landing is a young GV (one year, maximum 2) that is wondering around this nest since the couple is there.
It´s funny because they are not so agressive towards him as they would be if it was an adult.

There are 2 ways to find out if it is an adult or a young GV: adults have the beak whiter and the young ones almost black. Also the "necklace" is darker in the young ones, and that makes their head seem whiter than on the adults

GV parents have been very protective. I have tried to see the chick to catch a pic, in vain, the whole morning.

This is the Griffon vulture nest that we can see in this cam. Like last year GV occupied the former BS nest. The BS nest is quite close, "just around the corner" but it cannot be seen through the cam. When the BS start to fly maybe it will be possible to see them

Well,I saw a BS on the rocky ledge today.
