The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Chimega a few times I saw it too..at least two Osprays? lookalike flew away together..and before that one at atime flew over the pool..hard to see if it was low or high over the water cause it was like a mirror....earlier I have seen some dive for fish but only one per minute compared to the smattering bombattacks when kids were small..
The clock is funny there..

Grey heron(?) tried to go fishing. He slowly walked to the water and waited... Heavy rain shower came and he gave up.

Starling,
this bird is a daily guest at the fish pond, I saw him very often, especially in late afternoon.
Once there also was a small dark-brown mammal, I thought of a fox but it also might have been a young bear. Does anyone know more about the animals visiting this spot beside the ospreys? I had seen gulls and ducks, ospreys, this heron and the little mammal (but it then was too dark to see exactly). And not to forget the fishes, which seem to be numerous and in jumping mood there.
Thanks

19.29 Another try - with no luck, I think.

Kapa, I haven´t seen those mammals myself, but I´ve read raccoon dogs have been there.

A few bird stories from Finland from today.
- The owls had very bad nesting year. :( The reason is probably a bad vole year. Especially in south of Finland, but also in north Finland. It is likely the arctic owl/ snowy owl didn´t have any nesting at all.
Only Eurasian pygmy owl had somehow normal situation. The researchers haven´t find a good explanation why there are no voles. http://yle.fi/uutiset/polloilla_surkea_ ... ta/6297375
- The new satellite osprey, Ilmari (8 years old male) has began his journey to south. :) He got his transmitter already 2nd August. But now it has been published.

- This year´s bird picture has been chosen. The winner is Ari Kuusela. The picture´s name is "Paniikki" ("Panic") (goshawk attacks mallards). Congratulations to Ari Kuusela and the goshawk.

Thanks for interesting links. Sadly texts are only in Finnish. I tried to translate text about owls with Google translator but success wasn't great. But as I understand, problem for owls was bad vole not mole year. Vole number is fluctuating with period 3-4 years and owls, especially in north, are depending from them. Moles haven't such fluctuations and I think in north there aren't many moles at all.Starling wrote:A few bird stories from Finland from today.![]()

You are right, vainamoinen (I will edit the text).vainamoinen wrote: Thanks for interesting links. Sadly texts are only in Finnish. Btw, some people hoped to see eagle owl chicks again in Helsinki because there was last year a nest with chicks in the middle of city (on the roof of a shopping centre). But no luck this year. There were put 5 nest places for eagle owls made by humans but they stayed empty too. But 2 long eared owl chicks were seen in Helsinki. Picture: http://omakaupunki.hs.fi/paakaupunkiseu ... lsingissa/
(The citizens sometimes report long eared owls as eagle owls.

What a nice picture, meierlein!
And good news also, because I really ignored this cam after so many ospreys migrating yet.
