Re: About the Webcams, Food Supplies, etc
an article about White-tailed Eagles, who have changed their feeding habits
http://www.ilmajaam.ee/?id=79666
On Finnish coast, the eagles have learned to wait for additional food from the fishermen.
A flock of 6 eagles have been seen near Naantali watching the fishermen on ice. One local man said,
he saw even19 eagles. Every time he went to his fishnets, they appeared in hope to get the "small fry",
the fishermen leave on ice.
Aarne Nummila, nature photographer and a volunteer of WWF said, that these are not all local eagles, they come from Norway, Sweden, from the surroundings of Lake Ladoga and from Estonia.
Nummila hoped that White-tailed Eagles can help to limit the numbers of cormorants, if their additional feeding
places will be near cormorants nesting areas.
In Stockholm archipelago, Sweden, the White-tailed Eagles already have added cormorants to their menu.

about the mysterious deaths of eagles.
an article in Päevaleht http://www.epl.ee/artikkel/458513
here is the brief summary:
The cause of death of 2 eagles was lead poisoning.
One bird has been shot, the lead-bullets had injured it internally and caused the poisoning, bullets were found in it`s body.
the 2nd bird had also lead poisoning, but it was not shot, no bullets found.
Obviously caused by eating lead poisoned meat.
The other 3 birds are for further investigation in Germany.
The only eagle who survived, is in good health at Nigula Wild Animals Shelter. It was examined under X-rays, but no bullets were found.
The eagle will be released in Nature probably in this weekend, if the weather is ok.
So for certain may be say, that lead poisoning was the cause on 2 occasions.

Hello Kurmarie, thank you for this information, even though it is very sad. Why would anyone want to shoot an eagle?

news about the eagle(found at Hiiumaa with symptoms of poisoning) who was taken to Nigula Wild Animals Shelter.
that 3years old eagle is well, the ornithologists took it to the coast and let free.
But the eagle did not want to leave.
People tried to scare it to fly, but instead of taking off to freedom, it attacked them.
so the eagle will stay at Nigula until it feels ready to leave.

Aaaahh!
I think the poor thing looks young and scared, and doesn't want to go out into the nasty poisonous world again, yet.

Thanks for the news of that eagle, kuremari.
I suppose he will gain confidence soon. If not, they may have a life-long resident!

Very nice domestic view of eagle nest with busy residents, and beautiful snowy landscape (what kind of tree is the nest in, by the way - aspen?)!
Any chance of some fox, lynx, wolf ... walking by down on the ground?
How far from old site has the action moved?
Edit:
PS. Looking at that nest tree: it reminds of the Donna & Padis tree. Which was aspen? - Not a tree known in engineering or forestry for its good strength properties, so how does it work out with major nestbuilding?

Liis, I am sorry to say that we don't know anything about this webcam yet. I have sent e-mails, requesting information.
