Re: Spring and summer in Finland 2013
Today:
It has been a terrible weather, snowfall! Not warmer.. not yet.. :(
It looked like this:
Birds were singing though. And Nappu and Nanu making noise.
I should have tools to make sharper videos.. The snow fall does not look good in youtube, I should have e g Quicktime player pro (youtube gives an advise..)

Paula today:
She behaved exactly in the same way as yesterday. She sat and waited on the roof and climbed back down as soon as I had changed fresh water on the pot.

It's interesting video. Singing bird is a Song Thrush. We have no observation of this species in Latvia this year but you live further north!Olga wrote:Today:

Thank you, vainamoinen, for telling! I believed that it was a Blackbird!
But what could be the birds calling on the video taken in the darkness, on the previous page - some prey bird I guess..

No, it repeat each phrase two times. It's typical for Song thrush.Olga wrote: Thank you, vainamoinen, for telling! I believed that it was a Blackbird!

Birds, which are calling in the darkness are pair of Tawny owl. Hooting is voice of the male, but "kwick" from the female.

This is interesting to read, as I saw a fieldfare (picture in Birds, birds, birds) on Saturday and Sunday here, and I took notice of it because it was singing, and it was singing like a Blackbird! (at least what I know of a Blackbird song).vainamoinen wrote:No, it repeat each phrase two times. It's typical for Song thrush.
Olga, I hope the snow will now finally go away and it will be warmer soon! Nice to see your squirrels have found the way back to the feeding place!

Aah!! Thank you! This is so a good news, thanks again. I had a 'picture of Tawny owls' (Klaara and Klaus) in my mind, but I could not be sure. Their voices sounded familiar. I wish they have their nest somewhere further from here ( be cause of the house that will be build here in next summer!).vainamoinen wrote:Birds, which are calling in the darkness are pair of Tawny owl. Hello Olga,I hope the snow melts soon.!
Here in E. France today we have 18° and rain. Such a change, but the birds are very happy.
The two squirrels are still here in our garden ( they make many trips to other gardens all around )
Yesterday my husband watched one jumping from a spruce tree in one corner of the house,to the guttering. He then ran around the other side of the house to the front.
There is a Bi-coloured Maple tree growing there. The squirrel went to eat the new buds on a branch. Then he took the same 'road' back to the spruce.
They seem very happy in our gardens. Our nextdoor neighbour sees the more than we do....his kitchen window looks over here.
I hope you are recovering well Olga ? Hugs to you.

Thanks for the squirrel news, macdoum! 18 + degrees there, I envy you!
At last the spring seems to have begunon Squirrel! Last night: no frost! The temperature was +2+3 degrees!
Today have Wood pigeons returned. I saw six of them searching sun flower seeds on the parking place. They have flown several times around the Squirrel hill, such big and beautiful birds. Let's hope that they feel home here..
