Re: DISCUSSION ~ ESTLAT Osprey Nests ~ 2013
Wow! Both WTE were on Ilmar's nest and both were attacked. It looked like another WTE.
Eagles flying all over the place, landing and being attacked. Very sought after nest...by eagles, not osprey lately. Very entertaining!

These are such large birds, sure hope they don't mess with the camera in all their frenzy. They seem to really love this nest with the beautiful view even though it's a bit small for them.

The WTE is really cute when she looks directly into the camera at Ilmar's nest site. She wants this nest badly and who could blame her? I wonder where her mate is now, probably keeping watch somewhere.

I'm just wondering...last year Piret showed up at the nest for the first time on April 26. And today she came back. Just coincidence? Or Piret's timing?Wisteria wrote:Piret on the nest with Oxana at 5:00
Yesterday when I went to sleep I thought, it would be great if Piret would show up tomorrow, it's the 26th. But I was surprised to really see her this morning.

Gosh this nest is confusing! And WTE's on Ilmars! Not to mention the ducks . .
LOL NancyM for starting to feel sorry for Oxana.

The Picture Wisteria post. I mean this

Has anyone filmed the situation?
Piret and Oxana in the nest. I would like to see more than a picture.

I am so excited to see Piret and to know she is still safe and well.
I did wonder why Madis was manteling in roxanas presence. Have just seen seen post re piret's presence.Soooo pleased. What will happen now.
Also nest looks a lot better this morning. I expect Madis has been busy.

When Piret arrived for the first time to the nest (some days ago), it was empty; and Oxana arrived angry, chasing her (she moved the camera on first arriving).
But now they have not fought.
Why?
Did Piret arrived to the nest when it was empty? Or it was Oxana on it?
I saw pictures of both there, but I don't know how was the sequence.

Just a question...what if Oxana gets thrown out of the nest...and..since madis mated her several times...and she has to lay eggs...could she do that..including getting enough to eat on her own...or what would happen in that case?

Hello!
I'm new here. I spent many exiting moments watching the osprey family last summer. I am waiting anxiously to see how things turn out this year. I started to read this forum just a few days ago since things started to get a bit confusing at the nest site. It is wonderful to notice that these birds have so many enthusiastic fans.

I wonder if Madis has the other nest nearby with Piret and deviding his time between both. I have read somewhere that this can happen in Osprey land.
But what a relief to know that Piret is safe and unhurt.

As I know, eggs have to be incubated to produce chicks. I saw nests with eggs (common blackbirds) which were abandoned because of disturbing, theses eggs were eating by other birds.yarrow wrote:Just a question...what if Oxana gets thrown out of the nest...and..since madis mated her several times...and she has to lay eggs...could she do that..including getting enough to eat on her own...or what would happen in that case?

I don't know if birds lay eggs if they don`t have a nest where to put them in.

But my budgies only lay eggs if they have a nest, they are mating but no eggs were produced, I have two Budgies, male and female, so I know a little about

Now Piret is back again, at least nearby. Madis stays out of their fights, but he has mated both, Piret and Oxana. Now the question is, who will first lay eggs. What would happen, if this would be Piret? Would Madis then protect her against Oxana?

Maybe...he should start to build a second nest...in that case...we need another cam...and Madis lots of fish...

I have, did not work either. I did not bother to find out why. Might be some setting in my phone that is not right. I am not so good at these technical things.julanoschi wrote:Anybody try to have a look at the nest with the android version? I tried, but it doesn't work.
