Hello Leonia, I think so too. I looked if I find written proof for it, as somebody asked this question before. Nice Easter to you too!

Asteria - last year Tiina came second and started laying eggs only then. The situation this year is definitely different from any we have seen in the 3 years the camera is at this nest. There must be a hormonal cycle which is not only connected with the mating, but also with light (length of day) for instance, or the migration home.

This third egg will have been very short-lived, new companion of Tiina indicates us clearly that he was not fertilized.

Unfortunately it is similar with the year 2010 when Urmas found empty nest and egghells on the ground in July.

I don`t get it. According to the videos Tiina had laid the new egg and this male, whoever he is, destroyed it? Am I right?  Why?

I think that the male knew instinctively, that this egg could not be his, it was stranger
It´s not important to him, is this egg fertilized or not.

Alex, we don't know that. To make sure only eggs fertilized by him survive? Or he does not know what eggs mean because he is very young? We can only speculate unless somebody with more knowledge tells us. I did not find anything about such a behaviour in the book.

I know, that they destroy eggs from other partners. Also female storks do that when they come to their nest, where already another female laid eggs. I have no information, how the males know, but they seem to know it somehow.
I don't think that young storks don't know what eggs mean. Let's see what happens with the next egg.

found that on a stork-diary (white storks with similar behaviour):
Um 2.00 Uhr nachts ist viel geklapper rund um das Storchennest gewesen. Was der Auslöser war, kann nicht mehr nachvollzogen werden. Fakt ist, dass über den Tag hinweg, die 3 Eier aus dem Nest geworfen wurden.
Es hat sich nun herausgestellt das ein Partnertausch stattgefunden hat. Sprich der richtige langjährige Partner ist aufgetaucht. Dieser hat auch gleich seine genetische Vererbung gesichert und das Gelege zerstört

Translation:
Loud clapping could have been heard in the night. It's not known what happened, but fact is, that the next day 3 eggs were destroyed and thrown out of the nest. Later it became apparent that a change of partners took place. The right longtime partner appeared and saved his genetic heredity and destroyed the eggs.
