Did I get it right: Makonīte has fledged? And Pukītis is still a pedestrian on the nest?

An impressive eaglet flew in from the east side of the nest!

here's the Pontu clip from today morning when Makonite took off for her outing at 8:39.
she came odwn from the left branch, made some wing exercises in the nest and then hopped to the right front branch and dissapeared from sight. a minute or so later there was a crash of perhaps a falling stick. Pukite looks around, straightens her wings and yawns! then she began to clean the nest and was quite normally in the nest.
i didn't see or hear anything special til Pukite herself got up on the left branch 10:09. that Pontu clip is still being processed but it should be ready quite soon.
aha! Makonite has come down from her branch. i missed that.

we think that Makonite was somewhere further from the nest tree in the morning. she left via the front right tree so we don't know exactly when but she was out of even Pontu pictures for a long time.
Pukite got up on the left branch in the morning and spent some time there so she is 'officially' an branchling now, not just a pedestrian.

now i've got the Pontu clip of Makonite's return from her virgin flight. it seems that she first landed on the front right branch where she started her flight: the leaves in the right side of the picture are shaking and a rustle can be heard. i've marked the leaves that are shaking with a yellow circle.
about 20 s later she jumps to the nest, makes some wing exercises, looking proud and and mighty and gallant.
then she jumps on to her favourite place on the back branch. there both eaglets enjoyed shadow for some more time.

I could hear the landing on the branch. I also saw the leaves move. She's great!
This was a very special day for both eaglets -and for me

You "aunties" who follow them all days must be proud!
What is that flashing light filling the screen every now and then?

here's the Pontu clip where Pukite finally comes down from her first branching at 12:33.
Liz, you are right: she actually flew up there at 10:09. she stayed there for 2 hours and 34 min, much longer than Makonite was on her first branching.
before Pukite came down she also made some wing exercises on the branch.

... meanwhile Mākonīte sits on the trunk as if she was a smaller bird - tough of them both!ame wrote:here's the Pontu clip where Pukite finally comes down from her first branching at 12:33. ...

i think you must mean the sunshine which is a bit difficult in the evenings when the sun is shining from opposite of the camera. then it flashes between the tree tops so that sometimes the nest is in shadow and sometimes it's not. the camera tries to adjust to the changing light levels but when the shadows moves quickly it can't follow the light levels quickly enough. a similar effect happens when clouds travel quickly to cover and uncover the sun. in the evenings it's much more difficult.Owlie wrote:What is that flashing light filling the screen every now and then?
btw: this is a special day for all of us eaglet-aunties.

M outside the nest
P observed what makes the big sister
M is practicing again in the branches. Now she's on Momys brunch
now i saw she fly at 19:58 in something....
I wish I were one of the eagle-aunties - I am proud, too, but have followed this nest less than you, ame and liz. But I know the feeling to witness a fledging chick behind the screen! (I was lucky with two of the Latvian ospreys fledging)
19:49
I think it was Mākonīte who flew onto a branch up on the right side.

I think she sits near the microphone. It sounds as if Lubana, was near.

good Morning
sleeping eaglets
I think Makonite is on the balcony.
today I'm going to the Baltic Sea. So I can only see from 17:00 what the eaglets do
a woodpecker has called and now he knocks on the tree, and the oriole calls again
EDIT:M jumps back into the branches

good morning!
it seems that only one eaglet is at home. it's probably Pukite. she is busy preening on the balcony.
