Re: Estonian Tawny Owl Webcam 2015
Klaara leaves the nest, unfortunately, of what we were all afraid occurred: more than two chicks in the nest, the hard reality of the wild life.

They are bored; their "work" and playground are not there anymore.
Now they'll have to fight each other.

What sad happening - I had hope for these three owlets, they hatched so close to each other.

I woke up with a very bad feeling and went to read reports and I new what happened. I understand your feelings, Birdfriend. And it's a very, very sad, heartbreaking season, I was so hoping for a better one! But we have what we have, there is clearly not enough food, and when there is not enough food youngest owlets die. :((( And when they die they have to be eaten. The little one was not very active by the morning, I knew he was doomed. :((((Birdfriend wrote:I knew that since 13:28. They are cannibals. I can not understand this. Sorry, Maggy!

This is when it happened. After this very long feeding, the nest was quiet and they were resting most of the after noon.Abigyl wrote:09:33 Noise in the nest:

SomeOne is HUNGRY !
09:40 Klaara has some prey under her. She feeds one chick while the other Hungry chick is still calling.
10:00 Klaara is still digging and looks like she has some food and feeding, but someone is still hungry. Hope this is the scenario and not worse...
During the event it looked a different feeding but I still wanted to have some hope.

Sounds right. In the morning I couldn't watch them anymore, just couldn't...Abigyl wrote:This is when it happened. After this very long feeding, the nest was quiet and they were resting most of the after noon.

And last year after Milda died it took 2 feeding. So later it was a second feeding, looks like. That's why they are not hungry tonight and Klaara was in the nest box longer.

The bird is too big so that the chicks can swallow it.
