aita, could you make another picture of that, cropping it so that the eagles rings will not be zoomed smaller in the Bucket? that is crop it to smaller than 800 pixels wide, please. the ring code looks very clear there.
thank you aita! :2thumbsup:

i made two versions of one frame which i took from my video. it's the same frame. the first is original non-zoomed size and the other is blown from 500 to 800 pixels wide.

so the reflections reappeared at about the same time as yesterday. :D

the ring code K01-something slowly began to ring a small bell in the back of my head. i found this:
viewtopic.php?p=429300#p429300
on Nov 18th a young Latvian with ring code K01-something visited the nest.

Janis wrote information about this eagle on Nov 19th (on the next page):
viewtopic.php?p=429398#p429398

he then thought that the code was probably K019.
today's eagle may have been the same bird. i think that today's youngster was at least ringed in 2012 like the K01-something eagle in November. (perhaps the young eagle we saw a few days ago was also the same bird.)
i hope that this time Janis will see the codes 'better'...

now you are teaching us something new, Gutha Pertja!

i looked up Ignis fatuus in a dictionary:
1. Also called friar's lantern, will-o'-the-wisp. a flitting phosphorescent light seen at night, chiefly over marshy ground, and believed to be due to spontaneous combustion of gas from decomposed organic matter.
2. something deluding or misleading.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ignis-fatuus

option 1 sounds like combusting marsh gas (methane) to me but that can only be seen in low light level, in night time, because the light is very weak. these should be a real phenomenon, not just imagination or folklore as the quote above suggests, although there's no exclusive explanation that could cover all phenomena. see also:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will-o'-the-wisp
(the Finnish Wiki-article is much comprehensive than the English version)

we have seen these very bright lights at high noon so i don't this is the explanation to what we have seen. -unfortunately the camera is turned of for the nights, so far. maybe we shall see something in the summer? :whistling:

i got a message from Jānis.
Is audio ok now? brachux has changed some settings in camera and said that it could be working now.
Thanks about the info on ringed bird. Yes, it is K013, I ringed it on 29.05.2012 in Kurzeme (W Latvia), this is the first resighting of this eagle.

so it was something about the camera settings after all....

It could be the sunlight reflected from small water pools. The purple effect is just lateral chromatic aberration. It occurs on the edges of the frames. The intensity of this phenomenon depends on the quality of camera lens.

i made a Pontu clip of the Latvian K013.

i don't think that chromatic aberration can produce the light spots we have seen in the meadow.
chromatic aberration is a lens error or deficiency which produces a blurred image. this is quite something else than the sharp-edged and focused light spots that we have seen. it should be present at all times unlike the bright spots which have been seen at a very specific time of the day. this has been clearly dependent on the position of the light source, the Sun, in the sky relative to the camera.

good night!

Let's clear it once again.
White spots themselves are not cromatic aberration. As I said, they could be result of sunlight reflected from water. Of course the sunlight conditions can change, so these light reflections can be stronger or weaker. When the reflections are strong, the contrast between light spots and darker areas around them is also stronger and you can get purple artifacts (chromatic aberration) around the light spots.

Feb 3

the camera started pünktlich at 7:01.

it sounds windy (on VLC  ) but nothing else than the clock can be see. so we have both sound and picture. :innocent:

it sounds very windy!

BigDee :hi:
i didn't notice yesterday evening that you are new to this forum, sorry. welcome! :gathering:

of course the light spots can be reflections on water puddles in the meadow. that is the natural explanation. we have seen a lot of those, too, both in clear moonlight nights and in sunny days.
these light spots seen yesterday and the day before are different in the way that they seem to lie in a row. of course this may be just a coincidence but in a way it seems artificial.... :puzzled:
- besides the solar panels must be somewhere out there, not very far. i don't think that the guys would unnecessarily drag kilometers of cable to the forest...

8:13 now there is enough light so that one can see that it's raining. droplets on branches...
