In the Netherlands a female younger Eagle attacked and captured a nest last week with 2 young eagles and an adult WTE. The 2 young eagles didn't survive the attack and were thrown out of the nest.

Why would a juvenile capture a nest - they are not mature for nesting before five-six years age ...?

Uku, please don't get up. The chicks would not be able to hold on, in this strong wind.

I suggest that when you - anyone - refer to some news, or some article - anything that was expressed by someone else than yourself you would give a link to the source of your data to prove that the "news" is not from nowhere. Otherwise your message is not believable.

I'm from the Netherlands. We have a FB group with volunteers about our White Tailed Eagles. We have 6 pair breeding this year and this (sadly) really happened last week.

Uku carries a fish around but can´t figure out what he should do with it...
Finally he covered the chicks (which is also good in this wind).

16:41 Uku is eating. Meanwhile the chicks are calling. It looked as if the larger chick 'pecked' or at least pushed the younger one. It falls over and stays put for a while.

I thought he wanted to stand somewhere else maybe to keep the chicks out of the harsh wind.

I don't know..., maybe for the food on the nest or terratorium-things. See the Dutch article and pic of the Juvenile at the nest.

Thank you Superessy! I tried to Google translate the article - for me it looked like an Osprey story - did I misunderstand it totally?
Here we are talking about White Tailed Eagles ...

One thing is, that the juveniles of ospreys don't usually show up in their birth territories before three years' age, the stay in their overwintering areas south in Africa those years.

WTEs don't migrate, but they live ca 5 years among other juveniles further away from their birth region before they search for an own territory. And the first way to feed themselves is to steal food from other birds. If I have got it right.

You are partly right indeed. There is talking about the Osprey and WTE in the same article. The main article and large picture are about the WTE's (Zeearend). The other pics are about the Osprey (Visarend)

Osrpey = Visarend
WTE = Zeearend

Uku tried again to feed his chicks. He doesn't want to give up learning it. :thumbs:
But this time he still wasn't successful.
Image

I guess he noticed that he has to come nearer to the little ones, took the fish and put it near the chicks at the foot of the big tree trunk.
Image

But then he decided, he better sat down on his babies. Was it because of the wind?
Uku was already on a good way to feed them. I'm sure, at the latest tomorrow he will do it. :2thumbsup:

has anyone seen the third egg properly today. there was a dark spot on it in the morning. .. or was there? maybe it was some dirt or something in front of the egg?

I also wondered.
In the Estonian LK webpage there was even a prediction that today we will witness the hatching of twin eaglets.

Ame, I always was too fascinated of the two chicks to have a look at the third egg. :rolleyes: :D

The dark spot you mentioned in the morning, was clearly a part of the little twig in front of the egg, - so I think.

Edit:
In your video which begins at 06:07 in the morning, it is to see, that the assumed hole is only a part of the twig. At least I see it that way. When Uku comes to the chicks to settle down, one can see at 06:08:22, that Uku is then between the twig and the babies.
Also in the beginning of the video, when Anna got up, it is to observe.

How can we tell Uku to grow up :laugh:
He is begging food from Anna, as though he is the chick!

It is so touching, the parents are eager to feed each other - they both have the feeding hormones mode on - but they don't address is always to the right object ... :thumbs: Maybe they want to train feeding with each other?

Anna came in when the chicks became really loud and Uku had to get up. she is very wet! :slap:

Anna began to eat and she gave Uku some pieces of food. then Uku had a piece in his beak and Anna tried to reach for it. was she trying to teach Uku the feeding technique? :puzzled:
interesting!

now Uku covered the chicks again.
