And the cam has gone online yesterday !
The nest is really crooked ! I hope, the storks can use it.
The topic of Karula is still closed though ...

Hi all storkaholics
I'm glad to meet you again at Karula nest.
The slanting nest does look scary. But I trust that who was at the nest preparing the cam for the season estimated the risks and knows the situation.

Raivo is probably at home by now, maybe also Eedi. We need to wait for next data. Last data transmission in 29th did not get anything from Eedi, but for Raivo up to 28th. By the evening 28th Raivo was close to Estonian border, so think yesterday he reached breeding site. Probably also Eedi is very close or even back at nest. For Karl we need to wait for few days to see him in cam view.

Yes, they are! At least they have the worst behind themselves.Liz01 wrote:They are almost here
How they all manage the long, long distance ... So great, these Black Storks! I'm full of respect.
For Karl thumbs are pushed strongly for the last thousands of kilometers he still has to fly.
Thank you all very much for the updates!
Edit:
I've now calculated how many kilometers Karl really has to fly still. With help of Raivos marks on the birdmap, who is almost at home, I could work out, that Karl has not thousands, but about 1500 km to fly until he is in Estonia. So it maybe takes 5 - 7 days till we will see him at his nesting place.

RAIVO is back to his area
He was almost there but flew back and made a big tour in Latvia; Was it because of the weather ?

With Raivo there was a program mistake, no any back tour in Latvia. But certainly Raivo is at home.

Thanks Urmas for all the hard work !
This map is one of the best idea! Now technology can give a child or anyone who is interested, the answers to questions about migration.
I have a large "audience" of kids in my family who are addicted to the nest cams and the migration map. We talk about it and I'm happy for them; when we were kids we learned only from "dry" books.
I'm sure that kids of today will appreciate and protect better the environment and nature life. They'll always remember the bird by its name and understand better problems & facts of migration after watching it in real time during the year. Many thanks from all of us
