Re: Latvian Bittern Camera 2015 and 2016
The previous one was not too heavy and Bitterns can handle fishes much heavier than this chick.

I think the time is wrong on your last picture. It is now 20:46.

at 8:58 she again struggles with the dead chick. She lifts it in various ways, from the head or the foot and from the middle. But no. she leaves again around 9:03.

Strange to see that she seems pretty intelligent with the puzzle of collecting and placing nesting material, but that she is unable to figure out how to untangle this dead chick.

and I have missed it :-)
In the review I saw that it took her ages to take it away because underway it got stuck in the reeds several times. She had a long fight with it just in view on the left side of the screen. At 15:45 she gave up and came back to the nest.

This morning a Sedge warbler is often singing very close to the cam and Reed warblers not far away.

22:06 Do I hear a nightjar? A long constant churring. It is very loud. I thought this bird lived mostly in a different habitat. Or is it something else?
The reeds are growing, leaves are coming out. I see the chicks' legs are the same shade of green.

O, of course! I am not very familiar with reed birds. I have heard this one only once or twice on youtube. I didn't know it could sing long and continuously without stopping. And loud.Hagnat wrote:No, Savi's warbler (Locustella luscinioides) (Snor in Dutch, Rohrschwirl in German.).
By the way, I've heard several interesting bird sounds on this cam I've never heard before. But they are difficult to describe. One of them sounds like someone is blowing in a bottle but the tone is going up and is wavering.
Does this description make sense?
