Tali (87 days) and Usin (86 days) didn't leave today. They really don't want to leave the house.
Till now, 2 feedings by Karl.
When Uno left the nest on August 12, he was 85 days old.
I'm not sure, but I believe young black storks don't necessarily start immediately their journey to the south. I don't remember where I've read it, but I believe some stay sometimes 2 more weeks (or longer) in the area after leaving the nest, to improve their flying and hunting skills first and to get more reserve weight. So probably our storklets will start the big journey in the beginning of September? On average it takes them 72 days to reach the wintering grounds. (They take a break on several refueling places.) Parents normally arrive 2 or 3 weeks earlier on their destination.
Please correct if any of this information isn't correct.
Kati was seen on the nest for the last time on August 13.
It's probable she will not return (and already started the migration?

)
Young siblings don't fly together. (But sometimes join other BS later)
Migration of juvenile Black Storks: stay with the family or go alone?
http://tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080 ... 16.1190616
For many migratory species, social interactions on migration are poorly known, particularly the extent to which brood siblings remain together, at least during their first post-fledging migration. This study tested the assumption that Black Stork siblings stay together during migration and is the first time that juveniles from the same brood of a Palearctic sub-Saharan migratory stork species have been tracked on migration. Four juveniles from the same brood were followed by satellite tracking, and each dispersed or migrated in a completely different direction to its siblings. The results thus contradict the idea that Black Stork siblings remain together on their first migration, but to confirm these new findings, it is important to repeat the study using additional nests.
