Thank you for telling us, Asteria ! I was very worried and looked every day several times.

WHITE on the river Gagere
After 53 days of traveling WHITE, ie black stork, which flew out 23 August from the nest online in central Poland, arrived happily for a wintering on the river Gagere in the Shiite state of Sokoto in northern Nigeria. During this time it flew about 10000 km. If we take single stops and one main (15 day) trip over the Hungarian river Cisa, it turns out that he was on average 250 km per day. A great surprise was the two-way flight of about 200 km each over the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. Also defeating in 10 days over 2,600 km of sand of the central Sahara by a species strongly associated with fish and wetland habitats is a great feat. Currently the bird feeds on the backwaters of the Gagere River between the towns of Magagindoke and Kurawa. Unfortunately, Nigeria is not a safe place for not only the European crowds, but also for the people living there. Under the influence of Islamic groups in the north of the country (Boko Haram), sharia law was introduced. Since then thousands of people have become victims of religious pogroms
But I will still be worried because of these words : "Unfortunately, Nigeria is not a safe place for the European crowds"
That is right ! In the north of Nigeria is a serious situation of famine since years. It might be, they will catch and eat him if he doesn't leave this place ! The sooner the better ! ....

Baska and all,
probably Woodek will follow the black line
African and European migration of the black stork (Ciconia nigra (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... ration.png - Janssen/Hormann/Rohde: Der Schwarzstorch. Westarp Wissenschaften Hohenwarsleben 2004.)

Good morning Solo !
This would be nice, his flight would end near Lake Chad. That is a very good region where hundreds or thousands of storks spend their hibernation.
But he took another flight path and from here (red point) to Lake Chad he would have to cross again the desert.
I suppose and hope that he will go further to the south and follow the river Niger. There are wetlands and national parks. Perhaps until Kainji Lake National Park. (orange point)
somewhere above the Sahara

Thank you Solo, for pictures and the links
I have practiced something. Is still not good yet! But it shows the corner where it happened. I will practice for the next season. Then I will make better videos than now.
