When watching the flood of the Rhine at Düsseldorf I noticed several groups of cranes flying Southwest. Altogether about 400 cranes. Perhaps winter will visit our Rhine area?

Thank you, Solo, but I thought it is a little bit late for flying further to the South? However, meanwhile I learned that in January 2017 there also had been a further migration from Western Germany to France. In former years the cranes left Germany by end of October

- one young black stork from Poland, left Jan.1 his wintering place in Turkey and flew to area Golan Heights (border Syria - Turkey - Israel) 850km (Jan.7), this is also unusual (finger crossed - that its further journey over the dangerous regions of the northern coast of Africa is happy and safely reach the peaceful feeding places).

Solo,
Uneasy because of Kalle not sending data. At least with greater intervals he should be in GSM coverage. Oh my.
Anyway, Iti is on her way back to Turkey. She might fly to Göksu-Delta (next to Mersin Iti's position in 2016). Seems to me that she examined and assessed other wintering areas. Amazing.

Thank you so much for this awesome picture of Iti.
She sits on a big prey, doesn't she.
I do not find the text on Iti's behaviour which you refer to.

I think Iti is feeding on Crane carcass. In that place enormous number of Cranes is gathering, because of additional feeding - about 7 tons of corn every day... Few of those about 40 000 die, that is normal in such "urban" settlement of Cranes:
