We should inform ornithologist M.Strazds - perhaps he knows how to react in order to eliminate this threat.
The human, the raven, the eagle owl and the white tailed eagle .. these are the dangers for the black stork. Not the marten. The greatest danger is the human.

BTW: Māris Strazds knows what happens at the nest. There are many Latvian members, who are in direct contact with him.

I have notified a member of Kotkaklubi who can contact M. Strtazds.
Not mink? OK, correction noted!

Jo, :hi: I had to research first in the net, if it really was a pine marten.
The mink has white fur around his nose.

I was only watching the cameras so far. This is my first comment. Hope, you would accept another newcomer! :D
Just at 10:43 camera time there was a visitor in the nest - a forest marten. One of the biggest threats for eggs and chicks in the forests.
We should inform ornithologist M.Strazds - perhaps he knows how to react in order to eliminate this threat.

i agree that we are the biggest enemy off almost all animals, birds, nature at all; but a pine marten is a great egg thief and he like also eggs from black stork .
so he is also an enemy of the stork, currently he is awaiting/searching for them like all of us.

Mustela lutreola (european mink) looks quite similar to the marten - in difference to the american Mink (Mustela vison).
no idea if there are Mustela lutreola living in Latvia on site.

Actually, Pine Marten is a natural species in the forest. Therefore no way to eliminate it somehow, that is a normal part of Black Stork life. Some of them can manage with Marten. Actually, we have no proof from Estonian data that Pine Marten predated nest of Black Stork. But theoretically it is possible.

Urmas, thank you for your statement! :2thumbsup:

It's what I think too! You can not eliminate everything just because we think it could be dangerous!

16:20 There is still no nest building. Male is in the nest, Female on the parent branch

If I understood everything correctly, a new couple is in the nest and the couple 2017 is trying to get this nest.

Of course do not eliminate! The great task for all nature-protecting-people is to protect the few remaining of natural processes.
:puzzled: if Urmas kills a marten, surely there will be another nest-predator quickly there who like stork-eggs.

EDIT: nobody will do anything. It is nature. The Marten has a right to live. It's a beautiful animal

That was the source of the discussion.. eliminate this threat!
