could you capture a video of the incedence with the raven today? I was witness too, but could not save it. It was very much interesting because of the ravens calls which you rarely have a chance to hear in this way. I would very much like to show it to a birder friend.

BTW It wasn't not a cool reaction, in German ornithologists call the behaviour "Übersprungsverhalten" (displacement activity), which can be preening, pulling twigs on the nest or something else. It's nervous behaviour and does not seem to fit to the situation.

it was not a "Übersprungverhalten" .. That's the behavior in cats.not in birds!

14:58 was here and is away again
German ornithologists who mistake the terms/names of birds behavior. or do they mistake the birds, which pull branches of bird nests, with cats? i am quite astonished/confused.

It's often used under ornis in Germany für behaviour that does not really seem to fit to maybe dangerous situations for the bird, the eggs or the offspring.

This is a wrong interpretation of displacement activity behavior

Predators, I know it only in cats, show displacement activity if, for example, they could not kill a prey.

This behavior is not described in birds. :puzzled: At least I can not find anything like that!

BTW: For me it was a normal behavior of a black stork. He just did not react as violently as Zile, that's what I wrote.

there are descriptions: even "displacement behaviour sleeping" (but with an open eye to fix the opponent (after Simmons 1955)) and various other activities of birds which don' t seems to fit in the current situation.
Picking grass, as if they searching for food...
