Yes, maybe the storklets do not die because of this kind of treatment. I've also seen it often, when the storklets are some days and weeks older. But how awful is it for a storklet, when it just has come out of its shell!? It is surely totally exhausted and then this.
It may be so as it is, but it goes over my horizon, why the parents can not avoid this. Maybe it's a problem of their long legs and balance. Sara nearly stumbled through the nest.

Michi, they can not see the little one. I think it's a dangerous life if you're such a little stork.
I researched and found that. That could be the explanation :puzzled:

For me it is enough for the day, see you all

I'm also a little exhausted now because of the seen things.
Nevertheless a big thank you, Liz, for the videos! :2thumbsup: I must try to deal with the other side of nature. :-/

Thank you, Liz, I've read that posting. Maybe this is another reason why the parents act that way. It sounds at least plausible.

See you!

I don't want to end this day with sad thoughts. So here are my pictures from the very lucky moments of the little ones hatching.

18:27 The egg some seconds before the chick breaks the shell completely.
Beside of the big hole one can see a small line of cracks across the egg. The storklet knew precisely what to do for breaking the shell.
Image

Sara has rolled the egg a little and here it is ... The head is out.
Image

... and now the body :D. All within few seconds!

The little round back ... :D Now it is completely out of its shell.

The storklet crawled immediately behind the other eggs.

It is so small and at first it looked almost callow. But it is only wet.

Again a warm welcome, little one! Get strong and stay healthy! :2thumbsup:

Thank you very much, Liz and Michi, for the beautiful videos and pictures of this wonderful event to celebrate tonight. :headroll:
I hope everyone who was online enjoyed it as much as I did. :innocent:

PS: Michi, amazing how big (on hatching-day) the head of the baby is compared to the whole body.

You are welcome, Baska and balistar :).
I'm still deeply touched about the hatching, I saw. What an event!

Balistar, for me the little ones head - in relation to the body - does not look so big. On the contrary, - I was a little astonished about the big, well rounded body.
I think, the storklet indeed is well-proportioned. :D

Another wonderful good morning Liz, Michi, balistar, Ute and all the others ! :hi: A hello to Solo too
The second chick did hatch already :loveshower: and Liz has made again nice pictures and a video :D TY, Liz !

I still want to tell my thoughts about the steps of Sara on the little chick:
I think, it doesn't do them any harm during the first three or four days. I can imagine that the chicks don't have real bones yet. All of them are still soft and a kind of cartilage.
A similar protection of the nature like with the ducklings, who are able by this way to jump from 20 meters high breeding burrows down on the bottom without hurting themselves.

So sweeeeet !
