Oh, mogga, this was such an honest statement
Bea, actually when you encouraged us to go on and try to identify them, "they all look like fish to me" was also on my lips, I was just too shy to say it..
Apart from that - such a useful and practical "fish guide"! It helps a lot, thanks, mogga. Have to remember the number of the discussion thread where you posted this

Hello! i'm in France and i look at ivo and irma's nest with pleasure. Also at your blog. I look every day. At home, we have a webcam on Sylva ant Reda's nest. But, this year the three eggs haven't hatched. Thanks for your actions!

Hello Lusciniole, welcome to the forum
Great, that you are following Irma and Ivo´s nest here.
Yes, we heard about the unhappy events at the French nest, so sad ..... hopefully there is a better season next year.
Here are reports about osprey nests in Europe:

I could not differentiate between them, they all look like a fish.
No, I think it's a question of practice. What I see so far: Some are more silver and some are more the colour of olives...

The shape is different, too. There are still some missing that I found in the thread...
mogga, thank you for this charts!
At first sight there are still Common Carp, Mirror Carp and Perch missing, all possible fish that can appear here on the nest.
Yep, in the beginning they may all look "like fish" But soon one can see the difference between them, shape of fins, shape of the dorsal line, eye color, body color ...
When you agree I´d like to put your charts in one of the reserved posts (I always keep some for such purpose) at the first page of the topic.

I have been watching the nest for many years. I am always happy when Irma is back. She is such a great mom. And also her men do a great job every year. Not easy, always enough fish to pick. The little ones are just cute. Hopefully everyone will grow up. Sometimes I have to think about Kari, the little chick that died so fast a few years ago. That was so sad.

I will post them again and add the fishes that you mentioned.
But the Common carp at the website where I took the pics looks a bit strange for me. Like an ornament painting:

Irma is trying to get some sleep, but the chicks are still very active under her feathers.
The extensive food, providing from Irma and Ivo making them grow so fast.

Is Irma also hunting for fish in this season? Usual she does it not often and much later, or you mean Irma's feedings?Jenny wrote: ↑June 18th, 2018, 10:44 pm 22.37 PM June 18, 2018

Good Morning!
6:38
Another beautiful morning in Tartumaa!
13°C now with the high temp of 20°C today. 55F to 68°F
I read the breakfast report on YouTube, and Ivo delivered a fish at 4:23:55, this morning. Ivo is stepping up with these very early fish deliveries for the chicks!
Also, it was reported that Irma accidentally stepped on a chick while retrieving the fish from Ivo.
Off Topic- I was able to donate money to the Money Pot,just now!
Supporting ‘our’ Irma and Ivo! Plus all the other good works that they do!!

Irma cleans feathers, Ivo sits on a tree. The chicks sleep, and the younger looks around.
09:45
Ivo did not fly away again, he was sitting on a tree. Irma chirks quietly, asks for fish.
A stiff wind.
