Hello, here are the important measurements of nestlings at ringing time, sorry about the delay.
XH - wing 298 mm, weight 1,600 g
XJ - 305 and 1,400
XK - 265 and 1,530
I see that at least something was heard from my mumbling :) Indeed, my interpretation from these figures was that the order was a girl, a boy and a girl.

Just a remark: Jukka, also Kukka, sound much more Finnish than Estonian...

PLEASE don't go nowhere and especially out of forum. I always enjoy reading your light-hearted, humorous comments, as, I am very sure, many others do!
I really meant no offence, just wanted to suggest that we should not perceive what Bea motivates and explains as her "this or that" attitude towards us Moderators really do an important job here. As regards the voting, indeed, this forum will only benefit from a diversity of views and opinions! Every opinion should matter, indeed. And, most of all - this very nice and friendly "osprey-friends and lovers" atmosphere here.
Sunshine,
Oh, I'm not going anywhere, don't worry. By "out" I was just referring to radio communication SOP as "end of transmission". :innocent:

Let's keep :gathering:

Thank you Ulo V !
So we can assume XH and XK are girls and XJ a boy.
Maybe Bea will start a vote thread for the names now

@ Ülo V
What can you tell about the fact that XJ has longer wing but lighter weight? Is it typical for genders or does it tell about hatching order?

Choco is already very well on her feet and actively exercices her wings. This girl is the first to leave the nest :bounce:
That's my guess too. She's so brave and determined - just like her mother!

Chicks are growing up!

I wonder why the chicks behave like this. Is it some sort of confidence building or something...?

around 18:20 - 18:25 there was a funny housekeeping session by the three osprets, after early dinner.

So, name poll is on Sunday?
Hey Maria&Xavier, nice to hear from you!

I understood that the voting was going to be open "during the weekend".

While I watched the ringing the other day I noticed that the chick's feathers often could be mistaken for pine cones--which made me wonder if Irma brings pine cones as a sort of decoy or camouflage. I attach Sunshine's photo which shows some feather poses. From the back view the middle feathers (under the wings) look even more like pine cones.

quick note: I'm the one who suggested using Choco as a middle name, of sorts. I'm also thinking that maybe the cam watchers from Estonia should decide on the names, thus avoiding some of the drama that can develop?

Good morning! :hi:

7:00 (about) A brave crested tit (?) was thinking about conquering the nest, but decided to go home to have breakfast. 8-)

My suggestions for the names:

XH (female) = Helene
XJ (male) = Jaak
XK (female) = Kersti

Hello HelenL44! Nice suggestion, thank you. I think, as this forum is international, all members can suggest names and vote. It is not necessary to take giving names so seriously, lets have fun!
