i think this is good news. Vilnis has been able to hide himself somewhere so that he wasn't found. also no traces of him were found. i think that this means that for example a fox hasn't found and killed him. if a mammal kills and eats a bird there's always at least some broken feathers left on the ground. the bigger the bird the bigger are the feathers left behind. (as a former cat-co-resident i know this. )

Do foxes eat WTE and not vice versa???

a fox may kill a flightless WTE. both are beasts. beasts kill other animals.
i think that also a raccoon dog might kill a flightless WTE, at least an injured one.
i don't think that WTEs kill healthy foxes just like that either. they know that it would be a dangerous undertaking. a fox has tools to defend itself.
even mice try to defend themselves against beasts.

i'm rather certain that Vilnis didn't get injured in his fall. he sounded more astonished when he said "tsok-tsok-tsok" under the tree after his fall.

Later we heard him but we never saw him on nest.
