Hello there!

Greetings from our tunnel nest where we live. Do you know that there is a new owl nest online in Hungary?

You are invited to watch! Enjoy!

Lately camera was offline for some days. Today it is working again and owlets are fine. They are moving around the nesting place, but don't fly yet.

It is the end of season, camera doesn't work since June 5
Lately owls preferred the place below the nest, it was more shady.
Image

Owlets could fly perfectly, in the evening they gathered on the top of the hill, waiting for food delivery.
Last time seen on June 4th. I wish them a lot of rodents.

There is also the end of season, both owlets fledged.
Last time I saw them together on June 6th.
Image

Later only one visited the nest.
Image

It also left the nest area, since June 14th the place is empty.

This season was better than the previous one, luckily the fox did not appear.

Hi all!

This is a Slovak web page with some online cams (mostly with white storks). One cam is located under the roof and shows 2 juvenile Barn owls. They are supplied by chickens and living mice by man (professional from conservation organisation).

There was a fresh mice delivery this afternoon. So anybody interested can watch how 2 chicks learn to hunt those mice from metal basin in the centre of space.

H Biker! I am glad you like the cam.

Tonight one dramatic moment has happened... the chamber was visited by marten at early morning hours!

Fortunately the chamber fencing/netting worked beautifully. So marten did not find any hole to get inside. Juraj, a guy caring about owlets, made a video with marten s visit, interesting for watching I think:

http://www.kukaj.sk/clanok/1099-kuna-pri-plamienkach

He thinks that marten was attracted by mice whistling since he put 22 new mice to basin yesterday. And he hopes the fence will keep marten in a distance. So I want to hope that too :

yes very interesting video! thanks.
Good to know that he has no chance. almost every night I see martens in all sizes, between the cars ( :vangry: ) and also a little further out - this one is / seems very big, his interest was the owl

"So today was supposed to be the naming of our second adopted owlet chick but...we've decided to keep you in suspense for a couple more days....

The reason for this is that we're getting together with Karla Bloem from the Houston Nature Center / International Festival of Owls this Friday 9th November. I'm so excited to see her again and show her the PPO family!

We've shortlisted "lucky 8" names from the many great names we got in and we're going to ask Karla to "meet" the chick on Friday morning and give us her pick.

Before I get to the shortlisted names, I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to put forward names. We loved them all but can only choose lucky 8 for the shortlist for Karla.

A special shout out to the funniest name we got in from Chris Parham who thought "Brendan" would be an appropriate name - given that Brendan from the Owl Rescue Centre got hit on the head as he was taking away the eggs (IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE VIDEO, GO TO OUR YOU TUBE PAGE "POT PLANT OWL"). Chris, I had a good laugh at your name - thanks!

Okay, in no particular order, here are the Top Eight Shortlisted Names:
1. Matumaini (meaning Hope) - Maureen R
2. Isipho (meaning Gift) - Marion
3. Tau (meaning Lion for the introverted one) - Estelle Mann
4. Krag (meaning Power / Strength in memory of Rose) - Tani Schwartz-Gilbert
5. Tikva (meaning Hope) - Joanne56
6. Dayo (meaning Joy Arrives) - Sherrie Pearl
7. Nthabiseng / "Thabs" for short (meaning Makes Me Happy) - Anne Buchanan
8. Umcebo (meaning Treasure) - Michael Bronewski

So, there you have it! Good luck everyone. Sorry if your name didn't make the Top 8 but I can tell you that the rest of you were all joint 9s and 10s so you can be proud!

Roll on Friday, Karla!"

15 November 2018: Blowing in the wind, by Pot Plant Owl

It is a privilege to have this family living on our balcony. We will never take them for granted. I sat watching them blowing in the wind as a storm passed us by. Then she flew down into the garden before going on her nightly hunt.

On 15 November 2018 two perching bars have been installed. Little adventurer 'Mpho' jumped out to the floor & struggeled later with his attempts to get back ... 8-)

As Mpho and Thabs started to explore the balcony, they got special tree logs and carpet to make easier climbing back to the pot. It is very useful.
