Hello, aquiline. :hi:

Yes, "our" little Karula is amazing! This storklet is immediatly traveling fast and in the right direction!
I hope that he/she does not forget to rest and to eat!

Here is a very interesting paper on BS migration (in French, with an English translation at the end)
http://www.aves.be/fileadmin/Aves/Bulle ... -4_155.pdf

It talks about the influence of the weather and the age of BS on flight performance.
It says:
"Influence of age
Comparison of flight performances and age of birds shows that adults, immature and young storks, realize similar performances during migration.
Nevertheless, young and immature storks tend to make longer distances flights interrupted by longer and more frequent stopovers.
Adults travel that distance in a more constant way: the daily distances are shorter and spread over a greater number of active fly days.
This conclusion could be attributed to the lack of experience of young birds.
Longer daily distances cost them more energy and force them to fly flapping their wings at the beginning and at the end of the day, when thermals are not developed yet. Birds may be forced to stop regularly to fill up calories."

Yes, Karl and our amazing Karula have already gone a long way, and Päike's journey has just begun.
But Maru? Hopefully also she can turn her direction to southward!

Hello Anne !
I will be pleased to do that, but later.
Currently I am still busy with "my" other nests, whose pictures I usually post in another forum.

Have a nice rest of sunday !
greetings from Baska

The storks probably know that today is sunday and rest,
What Karula is attacking, he pulls through. Just like the first time he flew, as if he had never done anything else.
Maru feels better without the little ones and Päike only has food in her head.
I'm so curious how it goes on.
Karl has definitely overtaken Karula ... . :innocent:

Urmas wrote: August 18th, 2018, 4:09 pm All Black Storks on map. Added also Eedi, not exactly the member of family, but for to compare. Eedi was not visiting nest(s) anymore, so nothing to hide. If some delays on data update, then its because I was not near the computer and web.
Soon will be added also other species, but now BSs can spread out their wings over the all the map...
Well, then we wait

Karula is flying without any break. For me she s a bit too much in a hurry. :puzzled:

Karl is making a break .. it looks like it

Päike is searching for food in a forest area

Maru is back in the little Nature reserve. It seems, it is not easy to find food. Maru flies a lot back and forth.
