I miss data about Kalle (last data 06.10.2018) and the 2 new ospreys - Vova (29.09.2018) and Elena (13.09.2018)
I will remember that also last winter Kalle and Markus were sometimes outside of GPS net/zones - and appeared all right back to Estonia in the spring

Hellem, I thought so too. But I do not know all the migrations so well. Then I thought to myself, what about winter? Does she find enough food?
I'm glad if we get data from her ... she decided otherwise than anyone else (which we see) and that makes it very exciting.

Google Translation with some own corrections

Ospreys begin their migration in August-September (you go to another service) and fly thousands of miles to winter in West Africa. In Finland there is an estimated 1 150-1 300 pairs.

The osprey is a handsome bird, the wing size of a human length. In Africa it is an attractive catch in poor rural villages. In Nigeria it has not been protected, unlike in Finland.

On Monday, one of the osprey was hunted by hunters in Ark's village, Mallam Mador, in Northeast Nigeria.

- When we got the bird we were supposed to slaughter it. But when we saw a ring on the leg, some village leaders urged us to save the bird, "says Mallam Zubairu Daily Nigeria, a local hunter (going to another service).

One of the village leaders who was hunted by hunters was Magagi Mallam-Madori. He tells Daily Nigeria that the tire read "University of Helsinki".

It was decided to release the osprey yesterday in Baturiya Nature Reserve.

- Bird ringing is useful. In this case, it saved the life of one birdwatcher. Most Finnish fishing ospreys are wintering in West Africa. About 600 of the nearly sixty ringers in Sub-Sahara, about one-sixth is from Nigeria, says Jan Södersved, Editor-in-Chief of BirdLife Finnish Birds magazine.

This was only one quote - "our" migrating birds live dangerously on their migration routes especially on such regions as Malta and Egypt, where migrating birds are hunted objects, not only predators but also small birds. There people EAT them!
